Organizations Filed Purposes: MAESP FORMED FOR THE PURPOSE OF REPRESENTING AND SUPPORTING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS EMPLOYED BY PUBLIC, PAROCHIAL, AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS IN THE STATE OF MISSOURI. MAESP PROMOTES THE INTEREST OF CHILDREN AND MAESP MEMBERS THROUGH LEGISLATIVE SUPPORT, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES, NETWORKING, INFORMATIONAL PUBLICATIONS, AND CONFERENCES. MAESP IS THE LIAISON FOR MEMBERS WITH THE MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION, THE EDUCATION ROUNDTABLE, AND OTHER GROUPS. THE MEMBERSHIP OF MAESP IS COMPOSED OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS, RETIRED ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS, ASSISTANT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS, AND THOSE ASPIRING TO BECOME ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS.

Professional Development: The annual MAESP Leadership Conference attracted nearly 500 attendees and offered more than 65 concurrent professional development sessions as well as three general sessions with expert presenters in the areas of leadership, relationships, and instruction. MAESP hosted a two-day workshop for new principals and three one-day workshops for aspiring school leaders. In addition, MAESP organized and hosted a professional development series of trainings over multiple days for principals across the state. Topics included standards-based grading, bully prevention, supporting early career teachers, helping students with reading difficulties and strategies for upgrading your school year. Also, MAESP member principals provided input on many professional committees and task forces which worked for the benefit of children of MO and contributed to increased student achievement.MAESP continued to offer a multiple day conference for school secretaries and support staff from schools and school districts. The Educational Office Professionals Conference supported 175 attendees from across the state. Legal updates, inspirational speakers and practitioner sessions filled the 1 and day conference.Executive Director Michael Schooley continues to serve on the advisory board for the Missouri Leadership Development System (MLDS) that is in its second year of full implementation. The MLDS provides ongoing professional development and support for Missouri principals for the first several years of their career.

Advocacy: MAESP shares a lobbyist with other organizations in the School Administrators Coalition (SAC). MAESP leaders informed our legislative agenda and through the MCSA lobbyist provided important information to legislators regarding educational positions. MAESP leaders also visited federal legislators in Washington, DC to share a Missouri perspective on current education law and pending education legislation. MAESP continues to work closely with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education on issues important to principals and schools.

Leadership: As Executive Director, Michael Schooley visited the MAESP regions and shared information on legislative activities of the Education Roundtable, and updates on other initiatives from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. He also attended State Board of Education meetings and shared emerging developments and actions of the Board with MAESP members and non-members.
