The Missouri Dental Association Foundation (MDAF) is a not-for-profit organization committed to improving and promoting dental health within the state of Missouri. The MDAF awards grants to dental programs; the production and distribution of dental health related materials; and scholarships for dental and dental hygiene students in the state of Missouri. The MDAF promotes participation from its member dentists and community alliances in dental health related activities, such as National Children's Dental Health Month. Through community alliances, such as schools, Parents As Teachers, Head Start and other related groups, the MDAF distributes dental supplies, participates in health fairs and provides support to dental health education programs throughout the state, concentrating especially on underserved populations.
Missouri Mission of Mercy (MOMOM): During 2019 the staff along with a local committee hosted the eighth MOMOM event which took place on August 16th of 2019, at the St. Joseph Civic Arena in St. Joseph. The planning of our ninth MOMOM is on hold during this pandemic. A complete sponsor list is available on the MOMOM webpage at www.modental.org/momom.
The MDA Foundation continues to offer its long-standing Dental and Dental Hygiene Scholarship Program. For the 2019-2020 academic year, the MDAF awarded three $5,000 dental scholarships. The MDAF Board and staff worked very hard this year to promote the scholarship. The MDAF is eager to assist our future dentists and asks that you promote this program in your communities. In an effort to award scholarships to students who are more likely to stay in Missouri after graduation, the scholarship criteria requires all applicants to have been a resident of Missouri for a minimum of five years and be a graduate from a Missouri high school. Below are dental scholarship recipients along with the high school from which they graduated. Dental Scholarship Recipients: 1) Mitchell Hanson (Logan Rogersville High, Rogersville)2) Julia Lincicum (Jackson Senior High, Jackson)3) Drew Williamson (Francis Howell North High, St. Charles)Since 1999, the MDA Foundation has awarded $288,750 in dental and dental hygiene scholarships to students in Missouri.
Supply & Brochure Donations: The MDA Foundation continues to support various projects and programs by donating oral health supplies and education brochures. The MDAF attempts to honor all requests for donations but places special emphasis on programs for low income or underserved groups that may not have access to supplies and brochures through other means.
