EMPOWERING FAMILIES TO ADVOCATE FOR THEMSELVES SO THAT CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS CAN REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL IN EDUCATION AND LIFE - THROUGH SUPPORT, TRAINING, AND EDUCATION.
THE MPACT PARENT TRAINING AND INFORMATION PROGRAM (PTI) PROVIDES TRAINING AND INFORMATION TO PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES AND PROFESSIONALS WHO WORK WITH CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES. WHILE THIS PROGRAM IS PRIMARILY FOR THE CHILD'S EDUCATION RIGHTS THROUGH IDEA 2004, WE PROVIDE INFORMATION AND REFERRAL FOR ANYTHING DISABILITY RELATED.
THE PARENT MENTOR PROGRAM THROUGH TRAINED VOLUNTEERS PROVIDES DIRECT SUPPORT AND ASSISTANCE TO PARENTS IN PREPARING FOR THEIR CHILD'S INDIVIDUALIZED EDUCATION PLAN (IEP). PARENT MENTORS HELP PARENTS PREPARE FOR MEETINGS AND ON REQUEST MAY ATTEND THE IEP MEETING WITH THE PARENT. THE ROLE OF A PARENTE MENTOR IS TO EMPOWER THE PARENT. A PARENT MENTOR DOES NOT REPRESENT OR SPEAK FOR A PARENT BUT WILL ASSIST THE PARENT IN BECOMING A STRONG EDUCATIONAL ADVOCATE FOR THEIR OWN CHILD. MPACT PARENT MENTORS ARE SCREENED AND RECEIVE TRAINING AND SUPERVISION FROM MPACT STAFF.
THE SUPPORTING TRANSITION TO ENGAGED LIVES BY LINKING AGENCY RESOURCES PROGRAM (STELLAR) DEVELOPS THE CAPABILITIES OF FAMILIES TO BE INFORMED AND EFFECTIVE PARTNERS IN THEIR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES TRANSITION TO ADULT LIFE, AND TO FACILITATE SYSTEM CHANGE THAT SUPPORTS ALL CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS TO ACHIEVE THE REALIZATION OF THEIR PERSONAL GOALS IN EDUCATION, EMPLOYMENT, LIVING OUTCOMES, AND COMMUNITY INTEGRATION. STELLAR ADDRESSES THE NEED FOR INCREASED INVOLVEMENT OF FAMILIES BOTH DURING THE PLANNING STAGES OF TRANSITION AND ACROSS SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY SYSTEMS. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES TRAINING AND INFORMATION TO ENABLE INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES AND THEIR FAMILIES (INCLUDING PARENTS, ADULT SIBLINGS, AND EXTENDED FAMILY MEMBERS, AS WELL AS GUARDIANS AND ADVOCATES) TO PARTICIPATE MORE EFFECTIVELY WITH PROFESSIONALS FROM EDUCATION, VOCATIONAL, INDEPENDENT LVING, AND REHABILITATION SYSTEMS THROUGH COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIPS OF AGENCIES AND ORGANIZATIONS WITHIN THE COMMUNITY.
