THE CIVIC COUNCIL'S MISSION IS TO ACCELERATE GROWTH IN THE REGION'S PROSPERITY AND QUALITY OF LIFE BY STRATEGICALLY DEPLOYING THE PERSONAL AND CORPORATE RESOURCES, INFLUENCE AND EXPERTISE OF THE REGION'S BUSINESS AND CIVIC LEADERS. THE CIVIC COUNCIL WAS FOUNDED IN 1964 BY A GROUP OF CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICERS TO WORK COOPERATIVELY TO SOLVE COMPLEX AND DIFFICULT COMMUNITY ISSUES. TODAY, THE CIVIC COUNCIL'S MEMBERSHIP CONTINUES TO CONSIST OF CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICERS OF MANY OF THE LARGEST CORPORATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL PARTNERSHIPS IN THE KANSAS CITY METROPOLITAN AREA.
THE CIVIC COUNCIL SPONSORS A NINE-MONTH CIVIC LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM CALLED KANSAS CITY TOMORROW (KCT). THE CIVIC COUNCIL BELIEVES THAT THE ONGOING SUCCESS OF OUR COMMUNITY REQUIRES THE DEVELOPMENT OF FUTURE COMMUNITY LEADERS. WITH A MISSION TO BE THE PREMIER COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP PROGRAM IN THE REGION, KCT HAS MORE THAN 900 ALUMNI - INCLUDING SEVERAL CURRENT MEMBERS OF THE CIVIC COUNCIL - WHO TODAY HOLD SENIOR POSITIONS IN BUSINESS, CIVIC, PHILANTHROPIC AND NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS ACROSS THE KANSAS CITY AREA.
THE CIVIC COUNCIL PARTICIPATES IN THE PLANNING FOR, AND FUNDING OF, A NUMBER OF COMMUNITY INITIATIVES TO FURTHER ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION/WORKFORCE, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT, AND THE COORDINATION OF LEADERSHIP INITIATIVES. ONE OF THESE INITIATIVES IS KC RISING. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR MORE DETAILS.
KC RISING IS A REGIONAL INITIATIVE SPONSORED BY THE CIVIC COUNCIL OF GREATER KANSAS CITY, THE KANSAS CITY AREA DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL, THE GREATER KANSAS CITY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, AND THE MID-AMERICA REGIONAL COUNCIL. KC RISING EXISTS TO ACHIEVE A SHARED VISION OF REGIONAL PROSPERITY FOR ALL BY ALIGNING AND ACCELERATING COMMUNITY IMPACT. LEADERS FROM THE BUSINESS, CIVIC, PHILANTHROPIC, EDUCATION AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT COMMUNITIES REGULARLY CONVENE TO GUIDE THE WORK OF KC RISING. THE SPONSORING ORGANIZATIONS CONTRIBUTE IN-KIND AND, IN SOME CASES, FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO THIS INITIATIVE. THE CIVIC COUNCIL PROVIDES DEDICATED STAFF AND SERVES AS FISCAL AGENT FOR KC RISING.
