Bringing the smells, tastes, and joys of fresh, healthy foods to those who need it most. Kanbes Markets is a non-profit organization working to eliminate food deserts in Kansas City.
2019 was a year of slow and steady growth for the organization. We increased the size of our board of directors to 9 and created 3 committees including Finance, Marketing, and Governance. The Healthy Corner Stores program, our cornerstone, grew from delivering fresh produce daily to 4 local stores, to 17 stores. We located and leased a 15,000 square foot warehouse space and began to build the refrigeration needed to expand our program well into the future. We held several fundraising events and raised nearly $500,000 to support our programs.
