Organizations Filed Purposes:
TO MAKE LYRIC OPERA OF KANSAS CITY INDISPENSABLE TO THE PUBLIC THROUGH TRANSFORMATIONAL OPERA EXPERIENCES AND BROAD SERVICE WHICH CAPTURES THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF OUR COMMUNITIES.
THE LYRIC OPERA OF KANSAS CITY PRODUCES PROFESSIONAL OPERA AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING.
OPERA PRODUCTIONS: THE LYRIC OPERA OF KANSAS CITY TYPICALLY PRODUCES FOUR MAINSTAGE OPERAS EACH SEASON, BUT IN THE 2019-20 SEASON WE ONLY STAGED THREE MAINSTAGE PRODUCTIONS BECAUSE THE SEASON WAS CUT SHORT BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. OUR 2019-2020 SEASON, AS ORIGINALLY PLANNED, INCLUDED A THRILLING AND ADVENTUROUS NEW WORK (THE SHINING), AN IMAGINATIVE AND DELIGHTFUL RE-IMAGINING OF A MOZART CLASSIC (THE ABDUCTION FROM THE SERAGLIO), AND TWO POWERFUL AND BELOVED STORIES OF LOVE AND LOSS (LA BOHEME AND LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR). BECAUSE OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, WE HAD TO CANCEL OUR PRODUCTION OF THE SHINING AND THE LAST TWO PERFORMANCES OF LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR. IN ADDITION, THE LYRIC PRODUCED TWO PROGRAMS FOR EXPLORATIONS, OUR SECOND STAGE PERFORMANCE SERIES. IN ALL, WE ISSUED 11,989 TICKETS FOR OUR ARTISTIC PROGRAMMING IN OUR SHORTENED SEASON.
OPERA EDUCATION/COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMS: AS WITH OUR OPERA PRODUCTIONS, OUR EDUCATION/COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMMING IN THE 2019-20 SEASON WAS CUT SHORT BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, SERVING A TOTAL OF 1,230 AREA STUDENTS AND 1,600 AREA ADULTS. THE LYRIC OPERA OFFERS IN-SCHOOL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING THAT INTRODUCES AREA STUDENTS TO THE ART FORM, AS WELL AS OUR STUDENT DRESS REHEARSAL PROGRAM AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES THAT PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL TRAINING (OUR APPRENTICE ARTISTS PROGRAM AND RESIDENT ARTISTS PROGRAM) AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES THAT BROADEN THE REACH OF OUR ART FORM.
