DOUBLE UP FOOD BUCKS IS A USDA-FUNDED PROGRAM TO HELP SNAP RECIPIENTS LOWER THE COST OF FRESH PRODUCE, ALLOWING THEM TO EAT HEALTHIER FOODS. THE PROGRAM PARTNERS INCLUDE CULTIVATE KC, DOUGLAS COUNTY, KANSAS, FAIR FOOD NETWORK, UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS MEDICAL CENTER RESEARCH INSTITUTE, AND THE EAST-WEST GATEWAY COORDINATING COUNCIL. MARC CSC AND THE PROGRAM PARTNERS WORK WITH FARMERS MARKETS AND GROCERY STORES TO OFFER DOUBLE VALUE FOR SNAP DOLLARS SPENT ON LOCAL FRESH PRODUCE. A NUMBER OF PRIVATE FOUNDATIONS AND PUBLIC AGENCIES ARE PROVIDING MATCHING DOLLARS TO ALLOW THE PROGRAM TO SERVE SNAP RECIPIENTS IN THE GREATER KANSAS CITY AREA, THE ST. LOUIS AREA AND EASTERN KANSAS.
THE EARLY LEARNING GRANTS: 1. IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF HOW TEACHERS INTERACT WITH CHILDREN BY IMPLEMENTING THE CLASSROOM ASSESSMENT SCORING SYSTEM; 2. SUCCESSFULLY TRANSITION CHILDREN FROM AGE THREE TO GRADE THREE BY WORKING WITH K-12 SCHOOLS TO HELP ENSURE PRE-K CURRICULUM, TEACHER PREPARATION AND PROGRAM QUALITY ARE ARTICULATED WITH K-3RD GRADE ELEMENTARY EDUCATION AND BEST PRACTICES; 3. IMPROVE ADMINISTRATION THROUGH UTILIZATION OF THE PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION SCALE AND INCREASES THE NUMBER OF PROGRAM DIRECTORS ACHIEVING A DIRECTOR'S CREDENTIAL; 4. IMPROVE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT TO INCREASE THE SUPPLY OF QUALIFIED EARLY LEARNING TEACHERS PARTICULARLY IN PROGRAMS THAT SERVE A HIGH PERCENTAGE OF LOW INCOME CHILDREN AND FAMILIES.
THE REGIONAL HEALTH CARE INITIATIVE WORKS WITH SAFETY NET CLINICS AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS TO INCREASE ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE FOR THE UNINSURED AND MEDICALLY UNDERSERVED. MARC CSC IS WORKING WITH THESE HEALTH CARE ORGANIZATIONS AND HEALTH INFORMATION EXCHANGES TO ENABLE IMPROVED SHARING OF PATIENT INFORMATION, PARTICULARLY AROUND REFERRALS AND COORDINATION OF CARE. MARC CSC WORKS WITH AREA ORGANIZATIONS TO PROMOTE ENROLLMENT BY RESIDENTS IN THE FEDERAL HEALTH INSURANCE MARKETPLACE. MARC CSC IS WORKING WITH BEHAVIORAL HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS TO INCREASE COORDINATION OF BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES AND PROMOTE TRAUMA-INFORMED PRACTICES. MARC CSC IS SUPPORTING WORK TO EXPAND THE USE OF COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKERS IN THE REGION AND ACROSS THE TWO-STATE AREA AS A WAY TO IMPROVE PATIENT OUTCOMES.
