The mission of Riverview Health Services is to facilitate healthcare access and provide health literacy services for individuals who are indigent, uninsured or underinsured. Each year, Riverview helps nearly 2,000 people access life-saving prescription medications, medical supplies and health education.
In 2019, Riverview Health Services helped over 1,550 people access health literacy, medication assistance, medical supplies and other forms of health navigation. Patient Advocates provide connections to safety-net medical, mental health and social services for clients who have lost insurance coverage or are referred from area doctors, hospitals and emergency rooms. Advocates navigate pharmaceutical and medical supply programs so that clients can get the medications and supplies they need. Clients are enrolled in pharmaceutical company medication assistance programs for long term medication needs; In 2019, clients received over $1,000,000 in prescription medication assistance. In 2019, Riverview accessed over $168,500 in medical supplies and over-the-counter medications for our clients. Short-term medication assistance is provided for critical needs. Riverview Health Services' Health Literacy services help people understand their health conditions and gain the real-world knowledge and strategies to live healthier lives. Riverview provides individualized diabetes education at safety-net clinics for people who are struggling to achieve good health outcomes. Bilingual Certified Diabetes Educators work within clinics to provide culturally appropriate, medically accurate education. Riverview provides bilingual group education at Riverview and at a collaborating clinic. This program uses peer support and in-depth conversations that follow a six-week curriculum to improve diabetes self-management for participants and their families. Healthy Habits for Life is an intensive, year-long lifestyle change program to prevent diabetes and reverse prediabetes. This program uses a CDC-recognized curriculum and certified lifestyle coach to help participants gain healthy habits, build peer support, and lose weight.
