THE ORGANIZATION IS A FAITH-BASED, NOT-FOR-PROFIT CARDIOVASCULAR SPECIALTY ORGANIZATION COMMITTED TO PROVIDING SUPERIOR CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH CARE AND HEALTH SERVICES. WE VALUE AN INTEGRATED APPROACH EMPHASIZING CLINICAL EXCELLENCE, ADVANCED CARDIOVASCULAR RESEARCH, AND SUBSPECIALTY MEDICAL EDUCATION. AS A MEMBER OF SAINT LUKE'S HEALTH SYSTEM, WE ARE DEDICATED TO ENHANCING THE PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND SPIRITUAL HEALTH OF THE DIVERSE COMMUNITIES WE SERVE.
THE PROVISION OF HEALTH CARE AND CARDIOLOGY SERVICES TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC.
THE PROVISION, THROUGH LICENSED PHYSICIANS AND OTHER HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS AND SUPPORTING PERSONNEL, OF HEALTH CARE AND CARDIOLOGY SERVICES TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. THE ORGANIZATION PARTICIPATES IN THE MEDICARE AND MEDICAID PROGRAMS AND PROVIDES SERVICES ON A CHARITABLE BASIS FOR PATIENTS WITHOUT ADEQUATE MEANS TO PAY FOR THEIR CARE. FOR 2016, THE ORGANIZATION'S UNREIMBURSED COST OF CHARITY CARE AND MEDICAID WAS APPROXIMATELY $1,890,000.THE ORGANIZATION IS ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN MEDICAL EDUCATION. PHYSICIANS IN THE ORGANIZATION ARE PART OF THE TEACHING FACULTY AT SAINT LUKE'S HOSPITAL OF KANSAS CITY AND HOLD FACULTY APPOINTMENTS AT THE UMKC SCHOOL OF MEDICINE. MEDICAL STUDENTS AND RESIDENTS ROTATE ON THE INTERNAL MEDICINE RESIDENCY'S CARDIOLOGY SERVICE STAFFED BY THE ORGANIZATION'S PHYSICIANS. IN ADDITION, THERE ARE ACGME-ACCREDITED FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMS IN CARDIOVASCULAR MEDICINE, ADVANCE HEART FAILURE AND CARDIAC TRANSPLANT, ELECTROPHYSIOLOGY, INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGY, AND CARDIOVASCULAR OUTCOMES. FELLOWSHIPS IN PREVENTIVE CARDIOLOGY AND CARDIOVASCULAR IMAGING ARE ALSO OFFERED. THE PROGRAM DIRECTORS FOR ALL OF THESE CARDIOVASCULAR FELLOWSHIPS ARE THE ORGANIZATION'S PHYSICIANS.THE ORGANIZATION IS ALSO DEDICATED TO CLINICAL RESEARCH. ITS PHYSICIANS ARE LEADING RESEARCH PROJECTS THAT ARE SHAPING THE FUTURE OF CARDIOLOGY BY HELPING DEFINE THE PRACTICE OF CARDIOLOGY TODAY, AND GUIDING HOW IT WILL BE PRACTICED IN THE FUTURE. THROUGH RESEARCH, THE ORGANIZATION'S PHYSICIANS CONTRIBUTE TO THE ADVANCEMENT OF MEDICAL SCIENCE, ADVANCEMENT IN THE CARE OF PATIENTS AND THE COST-EFFECTIVE TREATMENT OF DISEASE.THE ORGANIZATION ALSO PROVIDES COMMUNITY EDUCATION / OUTREACH PROGRAMS INCLUDING AN IMPLANTABLE CARDIOVERTER DEFIBRILLATOR (ICD) SUPPORT GROUP AND PARTICIPATION IN AREA COMMUNITY HEALTH FAIRS.
