Organizations Filed Purposes: The Urban Neighborhood Initiative is dedicated to breaking the intergenerational cycle of poverty by helping to build healthy neighborhoods that enable all children and families to succeed and thrive. Focus is on ten urban core neighborhoods which are specifically defined by the Organization's charter.

UNI's mission is to partner with Kansas City's urban core neighborhoods to bring business, government, and community organizations together to improve prosperity, health, safety & education in the community.

Vacant to Vibrant Authored strengthened version of ordinance requiring "Set Aside" of a percentage of housing as affordable for projects receiving a city subsidy/incentive and ensured the item remained on the City Council agenda. Garnered support of 25 individuals, organizations and neighborhoods. Completed baseline inventory of properties in eight Building Better Block Areas (BBAs) in three neighborhoods. Working in the Asset Based Community Development framework, completed three of four baseline asset profiles in "Better Block Areas" through door to door visits. Asset profiles include individual resident knowledge, skills and abilities; physical space/areas to congregate; institutions such as schools or libraries; and existing associations. Completed two BBA health/wellness activities to improve overall health and wellness in the block area. Held Regional Vacant Lot Summit convening over 50 individuals and organizations across the region using an array of green infrastructure techniques to spur social, environmental and economic prosperity for residents.

Phillips Collective Purpose Built Community: Completed plans for 39 mixed income town home units, with our co-developer, Brinshore Successful response to an RFI from KCPS for repurposing the closed Kansas City Neighborhood Academy facility as a community serving multi-use facility. Exercised our option on 34 properties from the Homestead Authority. We are rehabbing one home to sell to a low/moderate income buyer, co-developing homes with Habitat for Humanity (4 new builds and 2 rehabs this year, and an additional 24 over the next two years) Plans in process for the additional 60+properties we have under option Completion of a neighborhood master plan with the Wendell Phillips Neighborhood and currently implementing near term strategies. Developed successful application for a $300,000 flexible, low interest loan from the Low Income Investment Fund to support property acquisition, rehab and building of affordable homes

Kansas City Catalytic Urban Redevelopment Initiative (KC CUR) Completion of a M/WBE survey of businesses in the UNI along with area profiles for three priority areas in partnership with LISC
