Youth Ambassadors is an educational program designed to empower underserved teenage youth with important life skills, soft job skills, creative expression, and adult mentors, helping them become future community leaders willing and able to work for positive change.
Youth Ambassadors empowers underserved teens, ages 14-18, most of whom have a history of multiple trauma exposure and continue to live in compromising circumstances. Unabated intergenerational poverty, single-parent households, the continuation of blighted infrastructures, as well as high unemployment, underemployment, transiency and teenage incarceration rates are among the myriad of problems our youth face. Youth Ambassadors educates up to 350 youth annually through summer and academic year programming. Youth Ambassadors teaches self-efficacy through programs during non-school hours when youth are most susceptible to negative influences. Through creative programming, Ambassadors gain the necessary tools needed to continue their education and/or enter the job market successfully. The Youth Ambassadors program is also designed to provide a "first job" experience. Through the receipt of a paycheck, Ambassadors learn banking skills, and fiscal responsibility, workplace parameters, and personal accountability. Ambassadors in our program complete work assignments in four central areas: 21st-century life and job skills, Art, Writing, and Health.
