EarthDance grows food, farmers, and community through hands-on education and delicious experiences.
EarthDance provides hands-on training and education about farming and gardening to youth and adults, and provides Certified Organic produce for sale and donation.
Farm Stewardship & Healthy Food Production: EarthDance preserves the oldest organic farm west of the Mississippi to educate the community about the value of organic farming, provide hands-on training for aspiring growers, and to grow healthy food for distribution in the St. Louis area through produce sales and food donations. Aspects of this programming include regenerative care for 14 acres of farmland, water-wise rainwater harvesting, pollinator habitat protection, and innovative farm infrastructure development.
EarthDance offers beginning growing training through its Farm & Garden Apprenticeship. Over 400 individuals have participated in this training program; 96.1% continue to grow food for themselves, their families, and to share with their community. 61% volunteer their time for agricultural projects and 57% train others. In 2020, due to the pandemic, EarthDance was forced to offer the apprenticeship primarily through online programming via Zoom and Facebook Live. Two members of the 2020 apprenticeship class have gone on to obtain employment in agriculture already.
Community Outreach & Partnerships: EarthDance educates the public about the value of organic agriculture through tours, volunteer opportunities, community outreach, over social media, and via partnerships with other organizations throughout St. Louis and beyond. In 2020, EarthDance was awarded a Farm To School Planning grant to collaborate with the Ferguson-Florissant School district to develop curriculum to incorporate agro-culinary education into school curriculum to support the district's 10,000+ students to pursue healthier eating and a closer relationship with the natural world.
