PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO THE UNDERPRIVILEGED AND CONTINUE TO PROVIDE TRAINING WITHIN THE COMMUNITY TO ASSIST THE UNDERPRIVILEGED.
The Narrow Gate program This program was redesigned to offer more upfront support including obstacle removal and training prior to employment. We discovered a much greater need for housing support and took steps to address this issue in future planning. We began reworking our approach to the Narrow Gate to incorporate the families and friends of our participants. One of the biggest obstacles we have faced was to successfully overcome the social network of our participants. We are working to connect with their network to try to bring healing to the entire group. These challenges will change the way we present the Narrow Gate to the general public. The internal function of the program will remain very similar to the past but will include a way to allow a friend, family member, or church leader to walk through the process alongside the participant.
The Opportunity Center The Opportunity Center established a new location in Barnsdall, Oklahoma. We redesigned the working relationship between the Opportunity Center and the Narrow Gate program to include more training support apart from employment. We explored new ways to connect with the local communities and business leaders to support the transitional employment needed for our work. This remains one of our biggest obstacles. We can walk along side someone recovering from addiction, homelessness or incarceration. It has proven very difficult to find employment without a long training and reintegration process.
The Leadership Center - 2019 was a year of transition and expansion. We expanded our training efforts in 2019. We trained in cooperation with the Keystone Project where we coached over 50 Christian leaders from around the world in disciple multiplication principles. In the St. Louis region we worked with 3 local churches to train their leadership in disciple multiplication principles. We also did training in St. Paul, MN and Grand Forks, ND. We trained and brought on staff including one new missionary in 2019. We expanded into Oklahoma by sending a team to establish a new location in Barnsdall, Oklahoma.
