The mission of Missouri Safe and Sober is to deliver outcome-based educational programs designed to empower young people to make safe choices.
During the 2019-2020 academic year, Safe and Sober expanded geographically outside Missouri. A total of 476 schools used Safe and Sober programs. Of those, 463 were in Missouri and 13 were in 9 additional states including: Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, North Carolina, New Jersey, Nevada , South Dakota and Texas. Students watch a video featuring real teens and families designed to show the importance of staying safe and sober. Students are then asked to take a pledge to make safe choices. Positive peer pressure and support from parents and teachers holds students accountable and creates a culture of change within each school. Safe and Sober also provides parents with information about the dangers of underage drinking, as well as tips for setting limits and expectations for their teen about avoiding drugs and alcohol. Safe and Sober primarily operates from revenue from private donors and a state highway safety grant.
