CHIPS' MISSION IS TO PROMOTE WELLNESS AND EMPOWER SELF-HEALTH MANAGEMENT FOR THE UNINSURED AND UNDERSERVED THROUGH PREVENTATIVE AND PRIMARY HEALTHCARE SERVICES. CHIPS' VISION IS THAT EVERY MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY WILL BE ASSURED ACCESS TO AVAILABLE AND AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE AND SOCIAL SERVICES TO ENSURE THE CONTINUED DEVELOPMENT OF A PRODUCTIVE, HEALTHY COMMUNITY. CHIPS' MISSION IS ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH THREE PRIMARY PROGRAMS.
TO PROMOTE WELLNESS AND EMPOWER SELF HEALTH MANAGEMENT FOR THE UNINSURED AND UNDERSERVED THROUGH PREVENTATIVE AND PRIMARY HEALTHCARE SERVICES.
CHIPS HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER IS A NURSE MANAGED FREE AND CHARITABLE HEALTH CLINIC ESTABLISHED IN 1990. VOLUNTEER PHYSICIANS, DENTISTS, CHIROPRACTORS AND OTHER PROVIDERS CARE FOR LOW AND MODERATE INCOME INDIVIDUALS THAT ARE UNINSURED AND UNDERSERVED. THE 5,000 SQ. FT. HEALTH CENTER HAS BEEN LOCATED AT 2431 N. GRAND BOULEVARD IN NORTH ST. LOUIS FOR OVER 29 YEARS. SERVICES PROVIDED ON SITE INCLUDE PRIMARY AND PREVENTIVE HEALTH CARE INCLUDING INTERNAL AND FAMILY MEDICINE, PEDIATRICS, GYNECOLOGY, NEUROPATHY, MEN'S HEALTH, ASTHMA/ALLERGY, DENTAL, PODIATRY, OPTOMETRIST, CHIROPRACTIC, AND CHRONIC DISEASE SUPPORT GROUPS. IN 2019 PROVIDERS HAD 1,251 PATIENT VISITS AND PROVIDED 10,833 HEALTH SERVICES. 135 PEOPLE ATTENDED SUPPORT GROUPS.
CHIPS' HEALTH CARE BEYOND WALLS PROGRAM IS A COMMUNITY OUTREACH HEALTH SCREENING, HEALTH EDUCATION AND REFERRAL PROGRAM DESIGNED TO LOCATE, EDUCATE AND ADVOCATE FOR INDIVIDUALS THAT HAVE UNDIAGNOSED OR UNTREATED DISEASES. THE TARGETED LOW INCOME MINORITY POPULATION MISSES OPPORTUNITIES FOR EARLY DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT FOR SEVERAL REASONS--BEING UNINSURED, UNEDUCATED, DISTRUST OF THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM ETC. IN 2019, HEALTH SCREENINGS WERE HELD AT 35 SITES. 326 INDIVIDUALS RECEIVED 815 BLOOD PRESSURE, BLOOD SUGAR AND BMI/OBESITY SCREENINGS. ALL INDIVIDUALS WITH ABNORMAL SCREENING RESULTS ARE REFERRED TO THEIR PRIMARY CARE PROVIDER OR CHIPS FOR FURTHER ASSESSMENT AND RECEIVED FOLLOW-UP CALLS.
CLUB CHIPS IS A FOUR YEAR YOUTH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM THAT TRAINS URBAN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO BE PEER HEALTH EDUCATORS. IN 2019 CLUB CHIPS MADE 22 PRESENTATIONS TO 1,451 FELLOW STUDENTS AND ADULTS, USING DRAMA, DANCE, CREATIVE WRITING, VISUAL ART AND MUSIC TO ADDRESS MEDICAL AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH ISSUES SUCH AS TEEN VIOLENCE AND BULLYING, DEPRESSION AND SUICIDE, AND NUTRITION. 180 LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT AND PEER HEALTH EDUCATOR TRAINING SESSIONS WERE ATTENDED BY 9 TO 11 CLUB CHIPS STUDENTS AGES 14-17. FIVE 16 SESSION SUMMER WORKSHOPS/RESIDENCIES WERE ATTENDED BY 172 CHILDREN AGES 5 TO 17. THE RESIDENCY PROGRAM IS TARGETED AT STUDENTS WHO ARE AT RISK FOR GANG OR JUSTICE INVOLVEMENT BECAUSE OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD WHERE THEY LIVE OR FOR OTHER REASONS. THE SESSIONS ARE DESIGNED TO HELP YOUTH: UNDERSTAND AND MANAGE EMOTIONS, SET AND ACHIEVE POSITIVE GOALS, UNDERSTAND AND SHARE FEELINGS OF OTHERS, CREATE AND KEEP POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS, MAKE RESPONSIBLE DECISIONS.
