EXHIBITION PROGRAMS: THE CONTEMPORARY ART MUSEUM ST. LOUIS (CAM), A NON-COLLECTING INSTITUTION, IS INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNIZED FOR EXHIBITIONS OF THE MOST PROVOCATIVE, INSIGHTFUL, AND RELEVANT CONTEMPORARY ART BEING MADE TODAY. IN FISCAL YEAR 2020, CAM FEATURED EXHIBITIONS BY LAWRENCE ABU HAMDAN, JONATHAS DE ANDRADE, BETHANY COLLINS, ERIC ELLINGSEN, DEREK FORJOUR, LIZ JOHNSON ARTUR, PAUL MPAGI SEPUYA, STEPHANIE SYJUCO, AND MARINA ZURKOW. ALONGSIDE ITS EXHIBITIONS, CAM PUBLISHES SCHOLARLY CATALOGS; IN FY20 PAUL MPAGI SEPUYA AND CHRISTINE CORDAY: RELATIVE POINTS WERE RELEASED. CAM WAS CLOSED DUE TO COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS FROM MARCH 18 TO JULY 8, 2020. THE SUMMER SEASON, WHICH WAS SLATED TO BEGIN IN MAY, WAS DELAYED UNTIL FALL 2020. THE HEALTH CRISIS HAS SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED THE ON-SITE ATTENDANCE NUMBERS. IN TOTAL, THE MUSEUM SERVED 26,620 VISITORS ON-SITE, 206,199 VISITORS ONLINE, AND HIGHLIGHTED THE WORK OF MORE THAN 130 LOCAL ARTISTS THROUGH ITS OPEN STUDIOS STL WEEKEND STUDIO CRAWL.
PUBLIC PROGRAMS: IN CONJUNCTION WITH ITS EXHIBITIONS, CAM DELIVERS ART EDUCATION TO PEOPLE OF ALL AGES BY PRESENTING A DIVERSE LINE-UP OF PUBLIC PROGRAMS THAT INCLUDE ARTIST AND CURATOR LECTURES; ART-INSPIRED DINNERS; FILM SCREENINGS; UNIQUE WORKSHOPS FOR FAMILIES WITH YOUNG CHILDREN; AND A MONTHLY NEIGHBORHOOD-WIDE ART CELEBRATION. CAM'S PUBLIC PROGRAMS ATTRACT VISITORS TO THE MUSEUM, CULTIVATE INTEREST IN ART, AND ENGAGE AUDIENCES OF ALL AGES. WHEN THE MUSEUM WAS CLOSED, A SLATE OF VIRTUAL PROGRAMS WERE PRODUCED REGULARLY THROUGH CAM'S WEBSITE AND SOCIAL MEDIA. IN FY20, CAM HOSTED MORE THAN 120 PROGRAMS, THE VAST MAJORITY OF WHICH WERE FREE.
EDUCATION PROGRAMS: CAM REMAINS DEDICATED TO FOSTERING CREATIVITY AND INCREASINGACCESS TO THE ARTS FOR THE YOUNG PEOPLE OF ST. LOUIS THROUGH FREE ARTS EDUCATION INITIATIVES. THESE INCLUDE PRE-PROFESSIONAL TRAINING IN NEW ART IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD (AT 25 YEARS, CAM'S LONGEST RUNNING EDUCATION PROGRAM); AN OPPORTUNITY TO ORGANIZE AN EXHIBITION FROM START TO FINISH IN TEEN MUSEUM STUDIES; ADVANCED STUDIO ART TRAINING WITH AN EMPHASIS ON COLLABORATION FOR MIDDLE SCHOOLERS IN THE LEAP MIDDLE SCHOOL INITIATIVE; AND SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES UNDER THE BROAD UMBRELLA OF ARTREACH. CAM IS PROUD OF THE MEANINGFUL WAYS ITS PROGRAMS MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO ST. LOUIS YOUTH, AND EACH SEASON PRESENTS THE WORK OF YOUNG ARTISTS IN OUR EDUCATION GALLERIES. IN FY20, THE MUSEUM SERVED 3,248 YOUTH FROM THE GREATER ST. LOUIS AREA. CAM EXHIBITED ARTWORK IN ITS EDUCATION GALLERIES BY STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN ITS ON-SITE AND ONLINE PROGRAMS AND WITH ARTREACH SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY CENTERS.
