All Souls Counseling Center (ASCC) provides quality mental health counseling to uninsured and underinsured residents of WNC. In fiscal year 2020, we provided 3,610 counseling sessions to 442 clients in our region. Approximately 81.5% of our clients are uninsured and more than 57% report making less than $25,000 per year. We receive 1,165+ phone calls for help each year. Counseling is provided on a sliding scale fee, based on annual income, with no one turned away for inability to pay.

Our 20+ licensed therapists provide individual, couples, family, and group therapy at our Counseling Center near downtown Asheville. Issues addressed include but are not limited to depression, anxiety, trauma/PTSD, addiction recovery, grief and loss, life transitions, post-partum depression, chronic pain management, parenting issues, marriage and family relationships, sexual orientation and/or gender identity issues (LGBTQ-affirming), stress management, victims of crime, and domestic violence. Bilingual English/Spanish counseling is also available. ASCC also places therapists onsite at community organizations such as the Church of the Advocate to better serve at-risk populations.

In conjunction with our counseling services, ASCC's board-certified psychiatrist provides evaluations and prescribes medication as indicated for current clients who are referred by their ASCC therapist. In fiscal 2020, we provided 255 psychiatric sessions to 68 clients. ASCC therapists use the Global Assessment of Functioning scale pre and post- treatment to evaluate improvement in behavioral health issues. Typically, we also administer a Client Survey twice yearly to measure client satisfaction with our counseling services. This year, due to COVID-19 we were not able to effectively administer these surveys. In the prior year, 76% of clients surveyed reported improvement in managing daily activities as a result of counseling received at ASCC.
