IN 2016, ASHEVILLE LYRIC OPERA PRESENTED THE MAGIC FLUTE AND MAN OF LA MANCHA, AS WELL AS "APPROACHING ALI", AN OPERA BASED ON THE LIFE OF MUHAMMAD ALI. WE CONTINUED THE OPERA IN THE PARK SERIES, HELD AT PACK SQUARE PARK, WHICH IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. THE PARK PERFORMANCES FEATURE CAST FROM THE COINCIDING PRODUCTION. WE HELD THREE PERFORMANCES IN THE PARK DURING THE YEAR. WE CONTINUED OUR YOUNG ARTIST PROGRAMS. THE SUMMER YOUNG ARTIST PROGRAM IS OFFERED TO SINGERS FOR SIX WEEKS EACH SUMMER. WHILE IN RESIDENCE, YOUNG ARTISTS PREPARE A RECITAL OF SCENES AND ARIAS FROM STANDARD OPERA AND MUSICAL THEATRE FOR TOURING PERFORMANCES IN WESTERN CAROLINA.
ALO ALSO FACILITATES THE SHOWING OF METROPOLITAN OPERA HD BROADCASTS AT A MOVIE THEATRE IN ASHEVILLE. THERE WERE 11 BROADCASTS IN 2016.
