In 2019 our hallmark education project, Dr. Bob's SoundSchool, grew to serve almost 3,000 students in the Asheville area, providing an innovative 10-week curriculum, teaching the science of sound through music and technology. We delivered over 30,000 individual lessons to two school districts. The Bob Moog Foundation also provided professional development (teacher training) to 30 teachers. We continued development and investment of resources to create a custom theremin- based educational tool, the ThereScope, that when ready to be manufactured, will allow us to serve children nationwide through our program. We expanded our educational offering to include four weeks of summer camps for ages 7-13, through which we taught children advanced lessons about the science of sound.
Our preservation and expansion of the Bob Moog Foundation Archives continued as we added and restored numerous documents, correspondence, and memorabilia and important vintage instruments to our collection, both through acquisition and donation, including but not limited to vintage Moog Multimoog, Vintage Moog Sonic Six, Vintage R.A. Moog Model 251 theremin, vintage Maestro pedals, vintage Minimoog Model D belonging to Gil Trythall, as well as a private collection of over 75 pieces of Moog Memorabilia from the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. We developed detailed cataloging and labeling procedures for all archive material that is offsite.
Creation of the Moogseum, a 1,400 square foot interactive public-facing museum located in downtown Asheville, NC, opened on May 23, 2019. The Moogseum is comprised of 10 experiential exhibits, representing a $300,000 investment by the Foundation, that were created for any age and knowledge level. In the first six months, the Moogseum saw almost 5,000 visitors, and was heralded locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally as one of the best new museums of its kind.
