This year, we were able to increase the number of grants awarded to those economically impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic through the Craft Futures Fund. Established in

The Center received a total of 2,467 requests for support during a 6-month timeframe, received 499 applications, and awarded 35 grants for a total amount of $175,000 from May 2020 to October 2020. . The Center for Craft has become a vital community resource in western North Carolina, serving thousands of visitors annually through top-notch programming in the form of exhibitions, lectures, workshops, and community programs. Free to the public, our galleries bring the latest cutting-edge exhibitions to the region and serve as a catalyst for discovery and learning about craft for all ages, backgrounds, and interest levels. In FY20, the Center welcomed 6,372 gallery visitors, exhibited 27 artists, and received 3,499 program attendees through exhibition-related programming and community initiatives. Between the Center's grand reopening in November 2019 through February 2020 (galleries closed to the public in March due to the pandemic), the Center was hosting an average of 1,250 visitors per month. . In 2013, the Center for Craft purchased its 1912 historic facility and began establishing relationships to raise the visibility of craft in the region. Following an 8-month renovation, the Center reopened to over 750 attendees at a Grand Reopening in 2019. The facility now offers over 10,000 square feet of additional space to host programs, meetings, and events with two galleries, event & meeting spaces, additional classroom & conference spaces, a Study Collection of the Craft Research Fund's publications, & a coworking space ("Cowork"). The Center for Craft is a creative destination and resource for international visitors and the local community by fulfilling the cultural sector's need for optimum space for programs and networking, and shared office space for like-minded organizations, small businesses, and creative professionals. . On March 18, 2020, the Center's galleries and cowork spaces were temporarily closed to the public to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and quickly pivoted to online programming. With the help of generous funders and donors, the Center remains a beacon of stability for the field of craft in these unprecedented times.
