Organizations Filed Purposes: CWFNC promotes clean, safe water and environments for all North Carolinians, through organizing, education, advocacy and technical assistance, with offices in Durham and Asheville.

1) Empowered, Just Communities Additional well testing for coal ash contaminants at residences around Duke Energy coal ash sites; strategic and technical assistance to 4 communities across the state impacted by coal ash, pesticide contamination and hazardous waste pollution; Leadership development for communities at sites of several environmental health/justice threats; advocacy to the NC Environmental Justice and Equity Advisory Board

2) Preventing Harm to Communities, Holding Polluters Accountable Public education, local and media advocacy about lack of need for natural gas pipelines and community harms of fracked gas and coal ash; Networking and outreach to get public turnout to NC DEQ meetings on coal ash cleanup resulted in requirement for full excavation of coal ash at every site, with removal to lined, above-ground storage to protect groundwater; Policy research, reports, comments; public presentations on natural gas pipelines, drinking water and air impacts of fracking.

3) Safe, Affordable Water for All Research and reports on impacts of water and wastewater privatization; establishing new statewide Water Justice email list Advocacy for the protection of private well users from contamination, strengthen policies to report health threats to well owners; Outreach to mobile home park residents to assess whether they are receiving notices of water quality, violations, published report. Organizing with private, for profit water customers to prevent rate hikes, demand better water quality and service
