Our Public Lands program protects and restores public lands of the Southern Blue Ridge for sustainable public use. MountainTrue continues to lead revisions of the US Forest Service Management Plan for the Nantahala and Pisgah National Forests. In 2019 MountainTrue: Monitored logging proposals Participated in the removal of non-native invasive plants Opposed the Buck Timber Project Treated and saved 400 ash trees-total trees saved 1,100. Documented over 600 species in the Nantahala River Gorge with the help of 40 expert biologists Completed the 8 year Grandfather Restoration Project.
Completed the Valle Crucis Park Wetland Management Plan Mobilized 146 volunteers for habitat restoration work days Test water quality at 60 sample sites across the area. Added 42 monitoring sites in the Hiwassee River Watershed Investigated 49 poultry facilities in the Broad River Watershed Planted 12,000 live stakes to help stop sediment polution in WNC. Removed 5 tons of river trash during the WNC Big Sweep.
