Organizations Filed Purposes:
The purposes of this organization are: to obtain and manage funds and memorials and to receive gifts, grants, and bequests for the use of the Transylvania County Library; to promote and support library services in Transylvania County by providing funding that complements but does not supplant the responsibility of Transylvania County to adequately support its public library system; to promote and support the informational needs and intellectual life of the citizens of the community; and to operate as a tax exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

The Looking Glass Rock Writers Conference is a partnership between the Transylvania County Library Foundation and Brevard College to encourage all genres of creative writing around a common theme of "a sense of place" through readings, workshops and hands- on engagement with writers of regional and national renown. The Conference serves as a catalyst for further recognition of Transylvania County as a distinguished community rich in culture and learning opportunities for people of all ages. Although the 2020 conference was cancelled due to the pandemic, the Foundation continuedd to provide support in preparation for future years.
. The J.R. McDowell Speaker Series is an annual event named for Library Trustee emeritus J.R. McDowell. The series is designed to present a wide array of viewpoints on challenging and thought-provoking topics and to bring renowned speakers to our community. In September 2018, we supported the Library's "Year of Science" initiative and brought noted astronaut Mike Massimino to Transylvania County. In September 2019 we welcomed award-winning jounalist and host of the PBS NewsHour Judy Woodruff.
. Youth Services were a key area of support during the 2019-2020 and the Foundation supported the County's Early Childhood Initiative, "Get Set Transylvania". With the support of the Library Foundation, Get Set Transylvania offered monthly toolkits for families, covering a variety of topics including healthy eating, family bonding, and learning through play.
