The ArtCenter's Artschool provides non-degree arts education to adults in a variety of disciplines. We offer beginning, intermediate and advanced classes in drawing, painting, digital arts, writing, ceramics and sculpture, jewelry making, glass-working and photography. Classes run year round with four quarters: fall, winter, spring and summer. The Youth Art Classes program is composed of applied, visual and fine art classes in a variety of disciplines: drawing, painting, digital art and ceramics. Since we provide options in several art forms, we are better able to offer participants a comprehensive arts experience. The ArtSchool increases community participation in, and appreciation of the arts, encourages emerging artists, and employs a significant number of teaching artists. The program serves not only the residents of Carrboro and Chapel Hill, but the greater Triangle area, including residents of Durham, Hillsborough, Pittsboro, Cary, Apex and Raleigh. We also promote our scholarships to economically disadvantaged patrons. The ArtSchool employed 40 teaching artists, provided 15 scholarship to low income adults, and offered over 400 classes and workshops in which nearly 3000 students registered.
The ArtsCenter's concerts program served approximately 4600 people over the course of 21 concerts in our intimate 350-seat theater. The concerts program is an integral part of our mission to inspire creativity and community through arts education, performance, and exhibition. We present touring artists as well as local performers, aiming to create a positive theater experience for both artists and patrons. Our space is also available as a resource to outside presenters, including event promoters, arts partners, and a weekly religious fellowship. The ArtsCenter's theater program presented 15 different productions and series from outside organizations, providing opportunities to emerging and established actors, directors, designers, playwrights, and comedians. Partnerships with student theater groups at UNC, and the Community Chorus group, highlight our focus on accessibility, education, and engagement. Additionally, our in-house theater groups No Shame Theater and Transactors represent our long-standing commitment to developing both professional and community theater in our local community. Overall, the presenting program (inclusive of both concerts and theater) served an average of almost 2,000 patrons monthly, continuing the reputation that The ArtsCenter has built over 30+ years as a focal point of performing and dramatic arts in the region.
