COLLEGE ADVISING CORPS (CAC) IS THE NATION'S LARGEST NONPROFIT SERVICE ORGANIZATION FOCUSED ON OPENING HIGHER EDUCATION ACCESS TO ALL. OUR MISSION IS TO EMPOWER LOW-INCOME, FIRST-GENERATION COLLEGE, AND UNDERREPRESENTED HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO IDENTIFY AND PURSUE HIGHER EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES. WE BELIEVE IN EDUCATIONAL EQUITY FOR ALL.
COLLEGE ADVISING CORPS WORKS TO INCREASE COLLEGE ACCESS FOR UNDER-REPRESENTED HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS.
IN PARTNERSHIP WITH 30 COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY, CAC MATCHES ADVISERS FROM OUR CORPS OF RECENT COLLEGE GRADUATES WITH UNDER-RESOURCED HIGH SCHOOLS TO HELP STUDENTS FIND AND PURSUE THEIR BEST HIGHER EDUCATION PATH. CAC NEAR-PEER ADVISERS ARE EMBEDDED INTO LOW-INCOME, UNDERSERVED HIGH SCHOOLS FOR A 2-YEAR SERVICE ENGAGEMENT AS FULL-TIME COLLEGE ADVISERS THAT SERVE ALL STUDENTS. NATIONWIDE, 73 % OF STUDENTS ADVISED IDENTIFY AS PEOPLE OF COLOR, AS DO 66% OF CAC ADVISERS. STUDENTS SEE THEMSELVES IN THEIR ADVISERS, WHICH FOSTERS A SUPPORTIVE AND POWERFUL CONNECTION BETWEEN STUDENT AND ADVISER.CAC NEAR-PEER ADVISERS BRIDGE DISPARITIES FOR DISADVANTAGED HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, PROVIDING COUNSELING AND ADVICE, THAT ALLOWS STUDENTS TO REALIZE AND ACHIEVE THEIR COLLEGE POTENTIAL. AND WHILE CAC'S PRIMARY MISSION IS TO INCREASE POST-SECONDARY OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS, A POWERFUL SECONDARY OUTCOME RELATES TO OUR ADVISERS' EXPERIENCES. THROUGH CAC TRAINING AND SERVICE, ADVISORS GAIN VALUABLE WORK AND LIFE EXPERIENCE. CAC ALUMNI ARE POWERFUL LEADERS FOR CHANGE.IN FY2020, 803 NEAR-PEER ADVISERS SERVED 269K STUDENTS IN 745 HIGH SCHOOLS ACROSS 17 STATES. COMPARED TO SENIORS IN THEIR SCHOOL WHO DID NOT MEET WITH A CAC ADVISER, SENIORS WHO DID MEET WITH AN ADVISER WERE: 24% MORE LIKELY TO APPLY FOR A SCHOLARSHIP; 27% MORE LIKELY TO SUBMIT THE FAFSA; 13% MORE LIKELY TO TAKE THE SAT OR ACT; AND 26% MORE LIKELY TO APPLY TO APPLY TO THREE OR MORE COLLEGES. SINCE 2005, CAC HAS SERVED CLOSE TO 1.5 MILLION STUDENTS, NEARLY 473,000 OF WHOM HAD ENROLLED IN COLLEGE AS OF FALL 2019.
