The mission of Camp Blue Skies is to offer camps to adults with developmental disabilities, enhancing their lives through recreation, socialization and life skills education.
Camp Blue Skies Foundation offers four times a year, for adults with cognitive disabilities, a week long residential camp experience designed to enhance their physical well being and expand their independent living skills.
The 2018 five-day/four night camp sessions took place in two locations: near Atlanta, Georgia (Camp Twin Lakes in Rutledge, GA) and in Western North Carolina (YMCA Camp Harrison in Boomer, NC). Camps were leased for one-week programs in March and October. The website is maintained for camper sign-up and for recruitment of volunteers. There is extensive planning for camp sessions for adults with developmental disabilities. The Georgia camp session was held March 12-16, 2018 and served 67 disabled adults with help from 72 volunteers. A second camp session was held March 19-23, 2018 and served 47 adults with Williams syndrome with help from 45 volunteers. The first North Carolina session was held October 6-10, 2018 and served 63 disabled adults with help from 69 volunteers. The second North Carolina session was held October 13-17, 2018 and served 61 disabled adults with help from 60 volunteers.
