A womens advancement center, the mission of Dress for Success is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to thrive in work and in life. Programs and services include job preparedness, including interview and workplace attire, job acquisition, employment retention and advancement, IT access, support and training, financial literacy, and mental and physical health and wellness.
Workforce Developments - Dress for Success Charlotte offers a full continuum of services, referred to as Steps to Success to more than 700 LMI women annually. These services include job preparedness, job acquisition, employment retention, computer training, and career advancement. Key educational and professional development programs include: Professional Women's Group; Career Center; Financial Education; and the Going Places Network. PROFESSIONAL WOMEN'S GROUP (PWG): Operated as a professional association (membership is free), the PWG strives to teach newly employed women about workplace communication, corporate culture, financial literacy and wealth building, advancement of career skills, work/life balance. 91% of women will retain and/or advance their employment while participating in the program. CAREER CENTER: A client may use this free resource on her own or schedule a one-on-one session with an HR Professional, Job Coach, or IT professional. Training includes: How to use and navigate the Internet; using social media as part of your job search; job placement software (2000 resources available including webinars and tutorials); rsum and cover-letter writing, and mock interviews. Computer Skills Training includes Microsoft Word and Excel and beginner and advanced levels. Of the 293 Career Center appointments, 204 clients secured at least one interview and approximately 25% of clients utilizing the Career Center reported back (voluntarily) that they secured employment. FINANCIAL EDUCATION: Designed as a response to the needs of our clients for financial education, this 10-week curriculum was developed with the National Endowment for Financial Education and provides education on such topics as Basic Banking, Budgeting, Credit Management, Debt, Investment, Retirement, Taxes, Workplace Benefits and The Government and Your Money. Notable achievements post program include: 70% of participants did not have financial goals upon entry and 100% had a plan at the conclusion of the program with 90% reporting they were sticking to the plan; 30% did not know their credit scores upon entry; 100% established an emergency fund, up from 20% upon entry and with an average of $1445 in the fund at the conclusion of the program; Money put into checking accounts grew, on average, from $714 to $1028 and in savings accounts from $364 to $1685. GOING PLACES NETWORK: This eight-week job acquisition program was designed to help unemployed and under-employed clients gain career skills, learn how to utilize job search resources, and build confidence. The majority of women participating in this program have been out of work for 2-3 years. 74 clients participated in the Going Places Network in 2019 and 70 completed the program. 51% reported securing employment at the completion of the program and 80% by 90 days post program.
Job Preparedness: Interview and Employment Suiting Programs. Clients will receive up to two complete outfits, including shoes, purse, accessories, health and beauty items, in advance of an interview. When she secures employment, she may return for an instant working wardrobe, up to five additional outfits, including shoes, purse, accessories, health and beauty items. Value of Inventory and number served: Value of inventory distributed via 601 Interview and Employment Suiting appointments was $37,925. Overall, 68%, individually reported or reported via referral agency partner, secured employment.
