Build internal capacity by hiring staff, engage and support local small businesses, and implement branding and communications plan to elevate the brand of the district. Major accomplishments include: hiring a full-time ED; engaging organization development and financial planning consultants; creating a communication platform including website, newsletter and social media program for the Historic West End district; providing technical assistance and programming to attract and retain small businesses in the corridor
The Historic West End Partners (HWEP) is facilitating a knowledge gathering and networking tour for Historic West End stakeholders enabling them to strategically address the building of their corridor business district leveraging Urban Main Street concepts and to remedy food insecurity challenges by leveraging national food coop practices. Accomplishments include: Food Security leads received knowledge from national practitioners and consultants. Knowledge was applied to the 2019 Rosa Parks Farmers Market yielding results that surpassed prior years of operations and offerings. Average attendance of 170 patrons in a 4 hour span.
The 5 Points Community Initiative is a project that will leverage events as a catalyst for community engagement and community building while laying a foundation for a vastly gentrifying community to become a thriving, blended, diverse, mixed-income community. The community engagement among 5 Points' commercial and residential stakeholders toward the creation of a 5 Points business district brand inclusive of Savory Saturdays, Open Streets 704, National Night Out, 5 Points Forward, Sankofa Retail Development and City of Charlotte Comprehensive Neighborhood Improvement Plan (CNIP) projects including the 5 Points Plaza/Pocket Park were well attended and received yielding the intended inclusive project goals.
