Organizations Filed Purposes:
To become a catalyst for positive change in the Lakewood Community by providing a tuition-free preschool and family program.
The Early Head Start program is through a partnership with Child Care Resources. This program serves families with children as young as 6 weeks old to age 35 months. We have two classrooms. The Blue Jays serves children ages 6 weeks to 18 months old. The Canaries classroom serves children ages 19 months to 35 months.
The North Carolina Pre-Kindergarten Program serves children ages 4 and 5. The children are preparing for their transition to elementary school. The children in this program learned how to recognize letters, shapes, numbers and colors. They are exposed to the greater Charlotte community by participating in field trips that took them around the city. The children who attended this program achieved 85% proficiency on the Peabody Picture Vocabulary test that looks at receptive language.
The Smart Start of Mecklenburg County - Charlotte Merchants Three Year Old Program is for children who are three on or before August 31st. The children learned social and emotional, cognitive, literacy, physical, and foundational skills that are key to future learning. They reached at least 2 development goals as described by Creative Curriculum. These goals were determined by widely held Developmental Milestones.
