Organizations Filed Purposes: WE ENVISION A COMMUNITY WHERE CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS AND AN ENGAGED PUBLIC ENHANCE THEIR CREATIVE CAPACITY THROUGH RELEVANT, DIVERSE, AND ACCESSIBLE EXPERIENCES.

WE CHAMPION CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS AND SPARK CREATIVE EXPERIENCES FOR POSITIVE COMMUNITY IMPACT.

MCCOLL CENTER'S NATIONALLY-ACCLAIMED ARTIST RESIDENCY PROGRAM PROVIDED SPACE AND TIME TO TWENTY-TWO ARTISTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD TO SUPPORT, DEVELOP, AND ADVANCE THEIR PRACTICE AT OUR STUDIOS IN DOWNTOWN CHARLOTTE: CHRIS CLAMP (CHARLOTTE, NC), MYLOAN DINH (CHARLOTTE, NC), TROY DUGAS (LAFAYETTE, LA), FRANCO FASOLI (BARCELONA, SPAIN), ANNA GARNER (LOS ANGELES, CA), JASON H. GREEN (ALFRED STATION, NY), MAYA GURANTZ (LOS ANGELES, CA), HELMS JARRELL (CHARLOTTE, NC), HOLLY KEOGH (CHARLOTTE, NC), LACEY MCKINNEY (SYRACUSE, NY), LAUREN ROSENTHAL MCMANUS (LAMBERTVILLE, NJ), AZITA MORADKHANI (NEW YORK CITY/BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS), MARLON MORRISON (CHARLOTTE, NC), CARMEN NEELY (CHARLOTTE, NC), HNIN NIE (CHARLOTTE, NC), LIZ NIELSEN (BROOKLYN, NY), CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE OPABLO RASGADO (MEXICO CITY, MEXICO), SHERRILL ROLAND (RALEIGH, NC), S/N (GREENSBORO, NC), DAMMIT WESLEY (CHARLOTTE, NC), BRITTNEY LEEANNE WILLIAMS (CHICAGO, IL), ANDREW WILSON (OAKLAND, CA).

MANY ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE ABOVE PARTICIPATED IN A UNIQUE AND INTENTIONAL PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT OPPORTUNITY, FULFILLING OUR MISSION TO SPARK CREATIVE, RELEVANT, AND ACCESSIBLE EXPERIENCES TO AN ENGAGED PUBLIC. THIS YEAR, THE RESIDENT RESIDENCY PROTOTYPE HOSTED FIVE CHARLOTTE-BASED ARTISTS DAMMIT WESLEY, HNIN NIE, HELMS JARRELL, MYLOAN DINH, AND MARLON MORRISON ADDRESSING ISSUES IMPACTING THEIR COMMUNITIES THROUGH SOCIAL PRACTICE ART, PROVIDING THEM WITH RESOURCES, TIME, AND MONEY TO DO SO. FOR EXAMPLE, JARRELL ADDRESSED THE ISSUES OF PLACE, COMMUNITY, AND GENTRIFICATION IN HER WEST CHARLOTTE NEIGHBORHOOD. CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE OSHE RAISED THE SUBJECTS OF HER WORK TO ROYAL AND BIBLICAL STATURE BY JUXTAPOSING DISCARDED MATERIAL FROM EVICTION SCENES, DECLARING THAT THERE IS VALUE IN BEING HUMAN, ESPECIALLY IN A TIME WHERE PEOPLE ARE OFTEN DISCARDED, LIKE FURNITURE AT AN EVICTION, FROM THE VERY COMMUNITIES THEY HAVE BEEN HISTORICALLY FORCED TO OCCUPY.

MCCOLL CENTER MOUNTED FIVE EXHIBITIONS DURING THE YEAR, ONE FEATURING MCCOLL CENTER MEMBERS, ONE FEATURING THE RESIDENT RESIDENCY ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE, AND THREE FEATURING ALUMNI ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE. OF THOSE THREE, THE EXHIBITION, ADORNED, MORPHED INTO VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING DUE TO THE PANDEMIC THAT TEMPORARILY CLOSED MCCOLL CENTER IN MID-MARCH. WE PIVOTED SWIFTLY TO ONLINE PROGRAMMING, WITH CURATOR JONELL LOGAN HOSTING ZOOM-BASED TALKS AND STUDIO TOURS WITH ADORNED ARTISTS AND CURRENT AND ALUMNI ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE. OTHER ALUMNI ARTISTS WERE INVITED TO LEAD VIRTUAL TALKS, STUDIO TOURS, AND ART WORKSHOPS FOR YOUTH AND ADULTS.
