Since the inception of The Sandbox in 2011, we have served over 5,000 families. In this time, The Sandbox mission has remained steadfast in serving children with cancer, a life-altering, rare or terminal illness. In 2016, we refined our vision for creating the most intimate, impactful level of care, which propelled The Sandbox to a new level of service a level of service that meets each family where they are in their journey and provides and accounts for their individualized needs. Our CARRE program is the umbrella to which all support is offered. CARRE stands for Caring About Real Relationships Empathetically. Because support can mean very different things to people, The Sandbox strives to meet the social, emotional and material needs of the entire family, not just the honoree. The Sandbox is committed to walking alongside families who face the realities of having a child with a diagnosis. This can mean helping with basic needs, arranging special days to get a break from the rigors of
CARRE Program - Since late 2016, we have been undergirding The Sandbox to build a process and a structure for our CARRE Program. CARRE is the umbrella from which we serve our families and from which all services are provided. Since CARRE means different services for different families, we aim to develop community partnerships and relationships whereby members of those organizations can assist us in serving our families. Through our partnerships, fundraising events and outreach we have reached nearly 5,175 families in The Sandbox. Also, within the CARRE program we host events for families such as our annual red carpet style prom which allows the families to forget about the daily rigors of their child?s diagnosis. The events we either hosted or co-hosted in 2019 include the following: Cereal With CC, Golf For CARRE, Meet And Greet For Prom, Try On Day, Operation Dress, An Evening Of Believing Prom, 4 Family Events - 1 per quarter, small events where we gather for food, fellowship and fun. All of these events were produced with 1 full time volunteer serving as our CARRE Manager, 1 part time donor development specialist, an Operations Manager and an Executive Director. Volunteer hours valued at $174,538 worked directly on the CARRE program and related events and services in 2019. At our 2019 Year End Leadership Meeting, we took a bold step into evolving The Sandbox CARRE program to our next generation. We announced our game plan to reduce our yearly events, increase a personalized level of CARRE for families and focus on layering our current asset base by expanding an even larger reservoir of resources. The result would be to provide an unprecedented level of CARRE and respite to our families. We secured an additional financial commitment to start undergirding our new programs and expect to realize the onset of our evolved programming late 2021 or early 2022. Assumingly our new programming will provide an unprecedented level of support we have not yet been able to offer.
