VETERANS BRIDGE HOME SERVES AS THE BACKBONE ORGANIZATION FOR NCSERVES METROLINA AS A COORDINATED CARE NETWORK CONNECTING VETERANS, SERVICE MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES TO SERVICES THROUGH A COLLECTIVE IMPACT MODEL TO IMPROVE SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH. IN 2019, VETERANS BRIDGE HOME AND NCSERVES METROLINA CONNECTED 1,841 VETERAN SERVICE MEMBER FAMILIES, A 38% INCREASE, TO 3,934 SERVICES, AN AVERAGE OF 2.1 SERVICE PER FAMILY. THE TOP THREE NEEDS FOR 2019 WERE: HOUSING, EMPLOYMENT, AND SOCIAL ENRICHMENT, WITH THESE CATEGORIES MAKING UP 67% OF ALL NETWORK REQUESTS. IN 2019, THE NETWORK RESOLVED 85.88% OF ALL REQUESTS FAVORABLY. VBH AND THE NCSERVES NETWORK ARE COMMITTED TO SERVING A DIVERSE POPULATION OF VETERANS THROUGHOUT OUR COMMUNITY; IN 2019, 24% OF VETERANS SERVED WERE FEMALE, AND 61% OF VETERANS SERVED WERE AFRICAN AMERICAN. VETERANS BRIDGE HOME CONTINUES TO STRIVE TO BUILD A STRONGER COMMUNITY ONE VETERAN AT A TIME.
OUR ORGANIZATION LEADS THE CHARLOTTE REGION IN SOCIAL CAPITAL WITH A RECORD 5,255 VETERANS AND SUPPORTERS ATTENDING 277 EVENTS. IN ADDITION, OUR COMMUNITY RECEIVED APPROXIMATELY $48,000 IN VOLUNTEER VALUE THROUGH 75 VOLUNTEERING EVENTS WITH 929 PARTICIPANTS. WE NOW ENGAGE WITH OVER 10,000 VETERANS & SUPPORTERS IN OTHER OPPORTUNITIES SUCH AS NETWORKING, FITNESS, RECREATION, SPECIAL EVENTS AND VOLUNTEERING. WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO PROVIDE THESE VETERANS WITH MEANS TO INCREASE THEIR SOCIAL CAPITAL, RESULTING IN A MORE SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY AND AN INCREASED SENSE OF INDIVIDUAL WELLBEING.
THOUGH NATIONAL UNEMPLOYMENT FIGURES ARE LOW AT LESS THAN 3.2%, VETERAN EMPLOYMENT SUPPORT REMAINS A TOP NEED IN OUR COMMUNITY. IN 2019, 23% OF ALL SERVICE REQUESTS TO VETERANS BRIDGE HOME WERE FOR EMPLOYMENT; OVER 930 INDIVIDUAL REQUESTS FOR EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE. OUR ORGANIZATION WORKS WITH OVER 23 VETERAN SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS IN AND OUT OF NETWORK TO PROVIDE VETERANS WITH JOB-READINESS WORKSHOPS, INTERVIEW SKILLS AND ENGAGEMENT IN HIRING EVENTS. IN 2019, WE ASSISTED IN EMPLOYING ALMOST ONE VETERAN/SPOUSE A DAY. WE ALSO WORK AND DEVELOP STRONG RELATIONSHIPS WITH OVER 230 LOCAL EMPLOYERS; SOME WHO ARE NATIONAL, TO ASSIST THEM TO RECRUIT, HIRE AND RETAIN VETERAN TALENT.
