Organizations Filed Purposes:
To interpret the distinctive cultural heritage of Gaston County and the region through historic preservation and the collection and conservation of artworks and artifacts. The Museum strives to inspire diverse audiences to understand their shared heritage and to consider ideas and issues which link the past and present to the future.
Christmas at the Heritage VillageGaston County Museum partnered with the Department of Parks and Rec for this event located at the Heritage Village in Dallas Park. This was a free event open to the general public. GCM provided a tours and special performances connected to the holiday. Even though 205 people attended the event, there was no expenses used by the museum outside of salaries for staff.
Whiskey with WileyGaston County Museum hosted an event with author Wiley Cash at the historic Loray Mill on September 14th. Wiley discussed his book the Last Ballad which is based on the life of Ella May Wiggins. The evening included a whiskey tasting, provided by Seven Jars Distillery. Support was provided by the Community Foundation of Gaston County.
Dancing StoriesGaston County Museum presented "Dancing Stories", a traditional African dance and music performance by Life As Art Productions on Friday, Feb. 8th. This performance was made possible by a grant from the NC Arts Council. The group also provided a free perfomance at a local school prior to the evening event, which was open to the general public. 312 people attended the two events.
