Supporting low income artisans: Bull City Fair Trade, formerly One World Market, reduces global poverty by providing low income artisans with a fair trade income by selling their handcrafts.
Operation of Fair Trade Store: Bull City Fair Trade, formerly One World Market, purchased $234,650 in handcrafts and food items substantially all of which were produced in 73 economically developing countries with typical wages of less than $2/day. Volunteers donated about 1922 hours worth $48,876 helping with sales and other tasks. As members of the Fair Trade Federation many of our suppliers commit to creating opportunities for marginalized producers, developing accountable relationships, ensuring safe working conditions, paying promptly and fairly, ensuring the rights of children, cultivating environmental stewardship, and respecting cultural identity. Other groups we work with follow fair trade practices.
Education Activities: Bull City Fair Trade, formerly One World Market, participated in outreach events at churches, schools, universities, corporations, and community gatherings. Through these events and in-store displays the organization informed the public about the need for an economy of fair trade worldwide and the importance of sustainable development that is ecologically sound. Bull City Fair Trade gives back to local nonprofits through our Shop & Share Program and serves as a cross-cultural resource for the Durham community.
