To achieve health equity and eliminate racial health disparities in Durham County and surrounding areas.
To coordinate efforts to close the gap of health access, mortality, and health outcomes between African Americans and the general population through health education, promotion, advocacy, and referrals.
Organ/Tissue Donation Projectto encourage morticians, funeral directors and insurance agents to advance end of life planning to African American families with emphasis on organ donation before cessation of life. Conducted pilot program with industry leaders to develop a curriculumand materials to publish a white paper , which includes guaidance for insurance agents and hospital professionals. Registered 45 donors for the year.
Healthy People digital media advocacy campaign to raise awareness, build a community of advocates, and highlight the need for policy solutions to insurance barriers/health access.
Community Empowerment Programs Annual Community May Meeting 30 year celebration to provide health education with emphasis on chronic disease prevention and to encourage healthier lifestyle choices. Free Saturday Community Empowerment Clinicsat local housing communitites.
