FREEDOM HOUSE IS A LONG-TERM, ADDICTION-RECOVERY PROGRAM THAT RESCUES, RESTORES, AND REDEEMS THE LIVES OF WOMEN AND THEIR CHILDREN IN A CHRIST- CENTERED, FAMILY ENVIRONMENT. IN JULY 2006, FREEDOM HOUSE ADMITTED ITS FIRST RESIDENTS AND BEGAN THE WORK OF CHANGING LIVES ONE FAMILY AT A TIME. THE PRIMARY GOAL WAS TO PROVIDE A SAFE AND LOVING ENVIRONMENT FOR THE RESIDENTS TO HEAL AND RESTORE THEIR LIVES AS THEY EXPERIENCED THE LORDS REDEMPTIVE POWER AND TO TEACH THEM HOW TO MAINTAIN THIS HEALTHY LIFESTYLE AND BECOME STRONG MOTHERS THAT COULD CARE FOR THEIR CHILDREN WELL. FOR FOURTEEN YEARS, FREEDOM HOUSE HAS BEEN A SUCCESSFUL, TWELVE-MONTH RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM WHERE WOMEN OVERCOME THEIR ADDICTIONS AND REUNITE WITH THEIR FAMILIES. AFTER COMPLETING OUR RESIDENTIAL AND AFTERCARE PROGRAMS, OUR MOTHERS RETURN TO MAINSTREAM SOCIETY AS PRODUCTIVE CITIZENS, FREE FROM THE ADDICTIONS THAT ONCE THREATENED THEIR LIVES, AND ARE ABLE TO PROVIDE AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE THEIR CHILDREN CAN FLOURISH.
EMPLOYMENT TRAINING SERVICES: MANY OF THE MOTHERS THAT COME TO FREEDOM HOUSE HAVE NEVER BEEN EMPLOYED AND ARE IN DESPERATE NEED OF JOB TRAINING TO HELP THEM SECURE EMPLOYMENT CAPABLE OF PROVIDING FOR THEIR FAMILIES AFTER LEAVING FREEDOM HOUSE. IN RESPONSE TO THIS NEED, FREEDOM HOUSE OPENED ITS FIRST THRIFT STORE IN GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA ON DECEMBER 18, 2008. AMONG THE MANY SKILLS FREEDOM HOUSE RESIDENTS LEARN ARE CUSTOMER SERVICE, ORGANIZATION, TIME MANAGEMENT, TASK PRIORITIZATION, AND HOW TO BALANCE A SUCCESSFUL WORK LIFE WITH TAKING CARE OF A HOME AND RAISING CHILDREN. THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EACH RESIDENT INCREASES AS SHE PROGRESSES THROUGH THE EMPLOYMENT TRAINING PROGRAM. FREEDOM HOUSE EXPANDED ITS JOB TRAINING PROGRAM IN 2019 BY STARTING FREEDOM HOUSE FARM, A WORKING FARM THAT IS GROWING AND SELLING STRAWBERRIES AND OTHER FRESH PRODUCE. THE RESIDENTS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CULTIVATING, HARVESTING, AND SELLING ASPECTS OF THE FARM AS ADDITIONAL EMPLOYMENT TRAINING.
RESIDENTIAL SERVICES: THIS YEAR FREEDOM HOUSE WAS ABLE TO PROVIDE THOUSANDS OF DAYS OF SOBRIETY, SHELTER, AND MEALS TO THE FAMILIES IN THE PROGRAM. PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS ALSO RECEIVED INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING, GROUP THERAPY, REUNIFICATION WITH FAMILIES, EMPLOYMENT TRAINING, AND A VARIETY OF LIFE SKILLS CLASSES, SUCH AS PARENTING, NUTRITION, ANGER MANAGEMENT, FINANCIAL PLANNING, AND CODEPENDENCY. THEY WERE PROVIDED TRANSPORTATION WITHIN THE COUNTY TO MEDICAL, LEGAL, AND SOCIAL SERVICE APPOINTMENTS. FREEDOM HOUSE HELPED RESIDENTS WORK TOWARD THE FOLLOWING NINE (9) GOALS: REUNIFICATION; DRUG-FREE LIFESTYLE; EMPLOYMENT TRAINING AND ACQUISITION; EDUCATION; SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT; HEALTH CARE SUPPORT AND DISEASE PREVENTION; LEGAL COMPLIANCE; INDEPENDENCE; AND, FAITH.
