IMPROVING THE HEALTH OF OUR REGION, STATE AND NATION
HIGH POINT MEDICAL CENTER ("HPMC") IS A 351 ACUTE CARE BED HOSPITAL PROVIDING MEDICAL, EMERGENCY, AND OUTPATIENT CARE SERVICES TO THE RESIDENTS OF GUILFORD COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA AND SURROUNDING AREAS. THE ORGANIZATION SERVES AS A SATELLITE PROVIDER OF WAKE FOREST BAPTIST HEALTH SPECIALTY SERVICES AT ITS HIGH POINT CAMPUS, INCLUDING HEART/VASCULAR HEALTH, GENETIC COUNSELING, WOMEN'S HEALTH, JOINT REPLACEMENT, PULMONARY & CRITICAL CARE, HEMATOLOGY/ONCOLOGY, GYNECOLOGIC ONCOLOGY, RADIATION ONCOLOGY, IMAGING, REHABILIATION, BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, PEDIATRICS, AMONG MANY OTHERS. HIGH POINT MEDICAL CENTER ("HPMC") IS ACCREDITED BY THE JOINT COMMISSION ON ACCREDITATION OF HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATIONS. HPMC EARNED THE AWARDS BY MEETING SPECIFIC CRITERIA AND STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE FOR QUICK AND APPROPRIATE TREATMENT THROUGH EMERGENCY PROCEDURES TO RE-ESTABLISH BLOOD FLOW TO BLOCKED ARTERIES IN HEART ATTACK PATIENTS COMING INTO THE HOSPITAL DIRECTLY OR BY TRANSFER FROM ANOTHER FACILITY. ADDITIONALLY DURING THE FISCAL YEAR, HPMC WAS RECOGNIZED AS ONE OF THE TOP COMMUNITY CARDIOVASCULAR HOSPITALS IN THE IBM WATSON HEALTH 50 TOP CARDIOVASCULAR HOSPITALS ANNUAL STUDY. THE STUDY IDENTIFIES THE TOP U.S. ACADEMIC AND COMMUNITY HOSPITALS FOR INPATIENT CARDIOVASCULAR SERVICES BASED ON A BALANCED NATIONAL SCORECARD OF HOSPITAL PERFORMANCE METRICS. TOP PERFORMING HOSPITALS DEMONSTRATED BETTER CLINICAL CARE AND WERE MORE EFFICIENT THAN THEIR PEERS AT DELIVERING THIS CARE.DURING THE SECOND HALF OF FY20, WAKE FOREST BAPTIST HEALTH RESPONDED TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. THE HEALTH SYSTEM INSTITUTED VISITOR RESTRICTIONS, DELAYED NON-ESSENTIAL SURGERIES, PROCEDURES AND APPOINTMENTS, AND RAPIDLY EXPANDED OPTIONS FOR PATIENT TELEHEALTH VISITS BY PHONE AND VIDEO. OTHER STEPS RELATED TO COVID-19 INCLUDED OPENING MORE THAN A DOZEN RESPIRATORY SYMPTOM CLINICS AT EXISTING FAMILY MEDICINE, PRIMARY AND URGENT CARE LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT THE HEALTH SYSTEM; ESTABLISHING A COVID-19 RESPONSE FUND TO GALVANIZE COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR PATIENTS AND HEALTH CARE WORKERS; PARTICIPATING IN A COMMUNITY-WIDE EFFORT TO PRODUCE AND DISTRIBUTE MASKS; AND LEADING A COMMUNITY-BASED RESEARCH STUDY OF THE NOVEL CORONAVIRUS WITH PARTNERS JAVARA INC. AND ORACLE.
