Organizations Filed Purposes:
To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The YMCA is an inclusive organization that serves all ages, abilities, incomes, races and religions. Regardless of the individual's ability to pay, the YMCA provides programs and services focused on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Governed by a Board of Directors comprised of local volunteers, the YMCA serves as a community resource for youth, adults, seniors and families.
HEALTHY LIVING FOR ALL - THE YMCA promotes interaction, teamwork, and development of moral and ethical behavior, social skills and positive self esteem. The YMCA serves a cross section of our community and contributes back to the economic capacity of every citizen. In 2019, the YMCA served over 870 children and adults in swim lessons, over 4,300 children and adults in team sports, over 400 children per day in summer day camp, over 225 children daily in after-school programs, over 2,900 campers participated in camping and outdoor programs and environmental education through our Camp Cheerio programs, etc. Additionally, the YMCA collaborated to host GradFest, an all-night graduation party (designed to provide a safe environment with no alcohol or drugs) for graduates of the 4 area high schools, is held annually at no charge. The YMCA also serves over 200 adults weekly through Bible studies that are held at no cost.
NEIGHBORHOOD AND COMMUNITY SERVICES: The YMCA collaborated with community agencies, churches, and municipalities in 2019. Some examples were: Martin Luther King, Jr. parade, Easter Egg Hunt, Juneteenth Celebration, Health Kids Day, Back to School Bash and Minority Achievers Banquet. Over 1,200 children and adults volunteered and contributed to make these community events a success. In total, over 16,800 people were served by YMCA programs and services in 2019. Additionally, over $175,000 was provided by the YMCA in direct subsidy to support low-income households. These dollars provided access to programs, facility membership, special events, and community celebrations. The YMCA also provided facility space and athletic field space to churches, school groups, and community groups. Over 260 hours of facility time was donated to non-YMCA groups for purposes of serving our community.
