Organizations Filed Purposes:
Transplanting Traditions Community Farm (TTCF) provides refugee youth and adults access to land, healthy food, education, leadership and entrepreneurial opportunities as a means to reduce food insecurity and poverty amongst the refugee community. TTCF achieves this through three interconnected programs described below.
Transplanting Traditions provides refugee adults and youth access to land, healthy food and agricultural and entrepreneurial opportunities. The farm provides a cultural community space for families to come together, build healthy communities and continue agricultural traditions in the Piedmont of N.C.
Business Development Program Supported the continued development and growth of 5 refugee farm businesses, helping their businesses collectively earn $110,000, increasing their income by 14% from the previous year Built business and agricultural capacity by increasing knowledge and skills of 5 advanced refugee farmers by 44% from previous year through workshops, training and technical assistance. Helped one refugee farmer business graduate from the TTCF incubation to be able to purchase their own land to start the transition to operating their own independent farm, and facilitated significant financing for 2 other advanced farmers to expand their businesses.
Hunger Relief Program Donated 3242 pounds of food to 125 food insecure refugee families in 2019, increasing our donation distribution by 21% TTCF supported 9 intermediate farmers to collectively earn or sell $12,393 in produce to food distribution/pantry organizations, increasing their earned farmer income by 50% from the previous year, each farmer earning on average $1,400.
Refugee Teen Leadership Program Facilitated 690 hours of programming that built skills and leadership for 9 refugee youth through trainings, workshops, conferences, and an intensive summer camp and project. Increased community engagement and education around sustainable agriculture and refugee issues through providing 19 community education tours to 425 total participants
