PANTRIES COMMON HEART OPERATED 9 LOCAL FOOD PANTRIES IN 2019 IN UNION COUNTY NC.THESE INCLUDE 2 TRADITIONAL WEEKLY EVENING PANTRIES,AND 4 REGULARLY SCHEDULED MOBILE PANTRIES WHICH ARE OPERATED WITH THE PARTNERSHIP OF LOCAL CHURCHES AND COMMUNITY AGENCIES. ALSO OUR LEGACY DELIVERY BASED PANTRY, COMMON CUPBOARD HAS OPERATED SINCE 2006.THIS PANTRY BEGAN AS A WAY FOR CARING PEOPLE TO SERVE HUNGRY FAMILIES TO DELIVER A WEEKS WORTH OF GROCERIES AND BUILD SUPPORTIVE RELATINSHIPS.THE KEY DYNAMIC OF OUR PANTRIES IS THE INFUSION OF INTENTIONAL ACTIVE KINDNESS TO BUILD RELATIONSHIPS ACROSS SOCIOECONOMIC,ETHNIC AND RACIAL BOUNDARIES. COMMON HEART PROVIDED GROCERIES TO 34 OF UNION COUNTYS FOOD INSECURE, 7,766 INDIVIDUALS SERVED AND AVERAGE OF 4.5 TIMES DURING 2019.

COMMON THINGS THRIFT STORE BEGAN IN 2011 PROVIDES A VARIETY OF PROCESSED DONATIONS INCLUDING CLOTHING, BOOKS, TOYS, HOUSEHOLD ITEMS, AND SMALL FURNITURE AT SIGNIFICANTLY BELOW MARKET VALUE AS A SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY. ADDITIONALLY, THE STORE IS OFTEN THE FIRST INTRODUCTION TO COMMON HEARTS WORK AND CONNECTS HUNGRY FAMILIES AND OTHER FAMILIES IN NEED WITH SERVICES. 30 REGULAR VOLUNTEERS AND OVER 100 OCCASIONAL AND COMMUNITY SERVICE VOLUNTEERS FORM THE BACKBONE OF THIS STORE. ADDITIONALLY, THE STORE PROVIDES TRAINING AND SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES TO MANY IN THE COMMUNITY INCLUDING ADULT RESIDENTIAL FACILITIES, HALFWAY HOUSES, COURT MANDATED, EDUCATIONAL, AND WORK FIRST CLIENTS.

OUR ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO HELP FAMLIES STABILZE THEIR ENVIRONVMENT AND BUID REOSRUCES TOWARD SELF-SUSTAINABILITY. WE HELP STABILIZE A FAMILY THROUGH NETWORKING, COACHING AND LIMITED DIRECT ASSISTANCE. THROUGH ONSITEE PARTNERSHIPS WE ASSIST WITH INCOME TAX PREPARATION, MEDICARE AND MARKETPLACE HEALTHCARE SOLUTIONS. OUR KEYSTONE PROGRAM WHICH BECAME FULLY FORMED IN 2018 IS ADVOCATES FOR CHANGE, GETTING AHEAD AND BRIDGES OUT OF POVERTY. TRAINING IS PROVIDED THROUGH GETTING AHEAD TO MOVE A FAMILY TOWARD SELFSUFFICIENCY AND THROUGH BRIDGES MIDDLE CLASS ALLIES AND AGENCIES ARE TRAINED ON WAYS TO WALK WITH A FAMILY IN TRANSISTION. AFC IS A SELFDIRECTED FOLLOWUP PROGRAM BRINGING FAMILIES TOGETHER ACROSS SOCIOECONOMIC CLASS TO SUPPORT CHANGE AT THE INDIVIDUAL, FAMILY AND COMMUNIITY LEVELS. POVERTY SIMULATION RUN BY AFC SEEKS TO CREATE AWARENESS OF REALITIES OF POVERTY AND ENGAGMENT IN ADDRESSING IT LOCALLY. IN 2019 WE ADDED THE R RULES PROGRAM EQUIPPING YOUTH TO MOVE OUT OF GENERATIONAL POVERTY.
