PFEIFFER IS A GLOBALLY ENGAGED, REGIONAL UNIVERSITY DISTINCTIVE FOR ITS TRANSFORMATIONAL UNDERGRADUATE EXPERIENCES AND ITS LEADERSHIP IN PROFESSIONAL AND GRADUATE PROGRAMS THAT FILL DEMONSTRATED NEEDS. VESTED IN ITS HISTORY AS A UNITED METHODIST-RELATED UNIVERSITY, AND PROPELLED FORWARD BY AN INNOVATIVE FACULTY, PFEIFFER PREPARES ITS STUDENTS FOR A LIFETIME OF ACHIEVEMENT, SCHOLARSHIP, SPIRITUALITY, AND SERVICE.
PFEIFFER UNIVERSITY IS A COMPREHENSIVE UNITED METHODIST-RELATED UNIVERSITY, WITH MULTIPLE CAMPUSES AND DELIVERY SYSTEMS, COMMITTED TO EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE, SERVICE, AND SCHOLARSHIP. WITHIN NURTURING COMMUNITIES OF LEARNERS, WE VALUE DIVERSITY AND PROMOTE THE ATTAINMENT OF FULL ACADEMIC AND PERSONAL POTENTIAL THROUGH ACCESSIBLE UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE PROGRAMS. IN THE 2019 AND 2020 SCHOOL YEAR, 150+ FACULTY, STAFF, AND STUDENTS PARTICIPATED VARIOUS SERVICE ACTIVITIES. IN THE SUMMER OF 2019, FOUR STUDENT INTERNS SERVED PFEIFFER'S HUNGER GARDEN. THESE STUDENTS PICKED VEGETABLES, DONATED TO THEIR BOUNTY TO LOCAL NON-PROFITS, AND FOCUSED EXPLICITLY ON CONNECTING WITH THE ELDERLY IN THE STANLY COUNTY COMMUNITY. THE PFEIFFER ANGEL TREE PROGRAM, AN ORGANIZATION THAT COLLECTS CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR DISENFRANCHISED CHILDREN IN STANLY COUNTY, SERVICED OVER 80 FAMILIES IN THE WINTER OF 2019. PFEIFFER'S STANLY COUNTY, HABITAT FOR HUMANITY CHAPTER, GREW SIGNIFICANTLY WITH 24 STUDENT MEMBERS. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY VOLUNTEERS INCLUDED FACULTY, STAFF, AND STUDENTS AND THESE PARTICIPANTS VOLUNTEERED BIWEEKLY AT HOME SITES IN ROWAN AND STANLY COUNTY.FURTHER, STUDENTS VOLUNTEERED MONTHLY AT SPRING ARBOR ASSISTED LIVING, WHERE THEY PROVIDED RESIDENTS WITH EDUCATIONAL AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES. STUDENTS ALSO PARTICIPATED IN AN MLK SERVICE DAY, WHERE OVER 30 STUDENT VOLUNTEERS CREATED BLESSING BAGS FOR THE HOMELESS COMMUNITY IN STANLY COUNTY AND SERVED AT A LOCAL NURSING HOME. FINALLY, STUDENTS VOLUNTEERED THE FOLLOWING ORGANIZATIONS OVER THE ACADEMIC YEAR: PAWS - HUMANE SOCIETY, SALISBURY/ROWAN PFLAG, SACC-SPECIAL OLYMPICS, SCHOOL OF EDUCATION.THE UNIVERSITY CHAPLAIN FOSTERED A RELATIONSHIP WITH CROSSROAD CONNECTION, A NEW NON-PROFIT IN RICHFIELD UMC THAT CONNECTS LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS, BUSINESSES, AND NEIGHBORS COMMITTED TO SEEKING COMMUNAL FLOURISHING IN THE AREAS OF FOOD, HEALTH, EDUCATION, AND RELATIONAL SUPPORT. PFEIFFER AND CROSSROADS CONNECTION WILL BE PARTNERING WITH THIS NEW ORGANIZATION IN THE FALL OF 2020. FURTHER, THREE PFEIFFER EMPLOYEES, INCLUDING THE DIRECTOR OF RESIDENCE LIFE, A PROFESSOR OF RELIGION, AND THE UNIVERSITY CHAPLAIN, NOW SIT ON THE BOARD OF STANLY COUNTY CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES, A MAJOR NON-PROFIT IN THE AREA SERVES THE BROADER PFEIFFER COMMUNITY. THESE CONNECTIONS ARE MEANINGFUL BECAUSE THEY ALLOW PFEIFFER AND THEIR CONSTITUENTS TO DIRECTLY CONTRIBUTE TO THE BROADER COMMUNITY'S NEEDS. IN MARCH OF 2020, PFEIFFER UNIVERSITY PIVOTED TO ONLINE LEARNING BECAUSE OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. BECAUSE OF THIS CHANGE, SERVICE-RELATED ACTIVITIES HALTED FOR THE SAFETY OF STUDENTS, FACULTY, AND STAFF. IN THE 2020-2021 ACADEMIC YEAR, PFEIFFER WILL FOCUS ON VIRTUAL AND INDIVIDUAL IN-PERSON SERVICE EXPERIENCES. SOME OF THESE PROJECTS INCLUDE PROVIDING PERISHABLE NECESSITIES FOR DISENFRANCHISED STUDENTS AT RICHFIELD ELEMENTARY, PENPALLING WITH SHUT-INS IN STANLY COUNTY, AND PROVIDING BLESSING BAGS FOR HOMELESS RESIDENTS IN STANLY COUNTY.
