Organizations Filed Purposes:
Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina (PCANC) is the only statewide organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect. Through investment in innovative programs proven to prevent child maltreatment before it occurs, PCANC helps North Carolinas communities decrease factors that put children at risk for abuse and increase factors that encourage children to thrive. Through our offices in Raleigh, we serve every community in North Carolina.
Partnership Engagement, Education, & Awareness - This year marked the launch of our #BeAConnection campaign designed to promote the building of resilient, compassionate, and trauma-informed communities to prevent child maltreatment. Connections Matter is a community-based initiative that explores how the connections we make in life profoundly impact the brains ability to grow and our own individual abilities to cope and thrive. Communities built on caring relationships have less crime, violence, substance abuse and homelessness; better school success; and better physical and mental health for everyone.
Prevention Programs - Aided communities in developing Child Abuse Prevention Plans and implementation of parenting programs that foster safe nurturing environments for children and families. PCANC Worked with a statewide Prevention Network of over 430 subscribers to develop leadership and advocacy supports for community-based prevention organizations. Provided Implementation support, coaching, technical assistance, pre-service training, and professional network supports for the Incredible Years, Strengthening Families, and Circle of Parents Programs with statistically significant results from support received. Expanded our capacity to support and assist with statewide scaling of Triple P, an evidence based parenting program focusing on positive parenting strategies using a population-level, public health approach. Expanded a coalition of stakeholders dedicated to promoting evidence-based and sustainable activities to: protect children from child sexual abuse, and promote safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments through Essentials for Childhood. Work through a statewide Prevention Network of over 390 organizations and individuals to develop leadership and advocacy supports for community-based prevention organizations. Built a coalition of stakeholders dedicated to promoting evidence-based and sustainable activities to: protect children from child sexual abuse, promote safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments through Essentials for Childhood.
Training and Professional Development - Provided training, consultation and professional network opportunities statewide. Training includes online, self-guided tools with built-in knowledge assessments, pre-service program training, parent support and leadership development, ongoing child maltreatment prevention webinars, and fatherhood engagement.
