To engage, educate and empower people throughout the country to build and maintain strong bones to prevent osteoporosis and fractures and live a long and healthy life.
Community education: [1] Held 570 community programs for over 17,000 people around the country. [2] Provided bone health education at the National Senior Olympic Games in Albuquerque where 13,712 athletes participated. [3] Moderated HealthUnlocked, a peer-to-peer support network where patients, caregivers, and health advocates share their experiences safely online with guidance from American Bone Health. [4] Grew social media channels and created web journey for newly diagnosed osteoporosis patients. [5] The American Bone Health Fracture Risk Calculator received over 82,000 uses. [6] Worked with the American Society of Nutrition on Bone Health and Protein Webinar. [7] Conducted six 3-hour Bone Health Workshops in Oakland, San Diego, Queens, Albuquerque, and Atlanta. The experience was rated 4.7 out of 5 by participants. [8] Conducted Freedom From Fractures at 54 locations and 3 hospitals, screening 2,203 adults, finding that 46% of adults aged 45-64 and 84% of adults age 65-74 were at moderate or high risk of having a fracture in the next 10 years. [9] Helped promote and judge entries for the Power Up Your Body Challenge for middle school children at the Liberty Science Center in New Jersey. [10] Launched a media campaign with Susan G Komen, creating special resources for cancer survivors. The campaign won merit recognition in the 2019 Digital Health Awards. [11] Screened participants at Susan G Komen 3-Day Walks and More Than Pink walks in Detroit, Boston, Minneapolis, Seattle, and Cincinnati. 39% learned they were at moderate or high risk of fracture. [12] Began training Delta Phi Lambda sorority sisters on osteoporosis prevention. [13] With Cal State East Bay, piloted a Best Bones Forever workshop at three Oakland Boys and Girls Clubs. [14] Selected as one of the top five finalists by OpenIDEO's Healthy Bones Challenge for our Post Fracture Advocate Program and was awarded the opportunity to attend a workshop at the Health Design Lab in Philadelphia for further development of the concept.
