Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE MISSION OF CTNC IS TO CONSERVE LAND IN WAYS THAT INSPIRE AND ENABLE PEOPLE TO BUILD RESILIENT, JUST COMMUNITIES.
DIRECT LAND CONSERVATION: CTNC identifies ways land better supports and protects communities adapting to a changing climate. Along the Blue Ridge Parkway, we have conserved more than 35,000 acres, turning most of that land over to federal and state agencies. CTNC undertakes landowner outreach, stewardship of protected lands, monitoring of easements, and direct acquisition and conservation easements. We seek to protect land with high conservation value, including for water quality, wildlife habitat, parkway visibility, development threat, and resilience to climate change impacts.
COLLABORATING WITH OTHER CONSERVATION ORGANIZATIONS: CTNC collaborates with land conservation organizations, government agencies, and community partners to deliver holistic approaches to land conservation that are in concert with the needs of local communities. CTNC serves as fiscal agent for nonprofits and government partners, offers small grants and bridge loans for land purchases, advocates for conservation funding at the state and federal levels, and coordinates activities to develop inclusive conservation strategies.
DEVELOPING NEW LEADERS FOR CONSERVATION: CTNC's service programs provide young people opportunities to work alongside communities undertaking conservation projects. More than 500 individuals, many from racially and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds, have gained leadership experience through AmeriCorps, Conservation Corps, and MAX Internships. Service members accomplish significant restoration and resilience conservation, build maintenance capacity, and deliver environmental education programs on behalf of nonprofits, government agencies, and community partners.
