Organizations Filed Purposes: The Diabetes Family Connections mission is to positively transform life with diabetes through power of community.Our organization provides year-round recreation-based programs focused on building confidence, optimism, and support for those with diabetes and their families.

Camp Morris: Camp Morris is North Carolinas largest residential diabetes summer camp. Youth living with diabetes are assigned cabins by age and supervised by experienced counselors (many of whom are living with diabetes themselves)and a dedicated team of healthcare professionals including: pediatric endocrinologists, registered nurses, registered dietitians, pharmacists, and certified diabetes educators. Camp Morris is a challenge-by-choice environment where campers have the opportunity to participate in traditional camp activites that include: archery, canoeing, camp fires, swimming, zip-lines, arts and crafts, multiple challenge courses, and more. Our staff and volunteers are experts at meeting campers where theyre at by using teachable moments throughout the week to promote healthy, age-appropriate independence in diabetes management.

PROJECT 50-IN-50: PROJECT 50-IN-50 was an ambitious expedition developed by The Diabetes Family Connection to prove to the world that anything is possible with Type 1 Diabetes. During this challenge, two DFC representatives completed an incredible journey of summiting the highest peak in each of the 50 states in just 49 days, making them the first people with Type 1 Diabetes to complete the acheivement. Over the course of the expedition, the team road tripped over 16,000 miles to hike, run, climb, and ski more thatn 315 miles of trails. The DFC encouraged members of the diabetes community to come out and join the team as they summited each states highest peak. In addition to achieving a new milestone in mountaineering, The DFC was able to grow local and global communities of people with diabetes.

Overnight Family and Teen Retreats: The Diabetes Family Connection provides weekend retreats throughout the year for families and teens affected by Type 1 diabetes. Parents and guardians have the opportunity to sit in on a wide variety of diabetes based education sessions throughout the weekend, while kids get the chance to take part in traditional camp activities. Families have the opportunity to learn from one another, connecct with other families navigating the challenges of diabetes, and have a lot of fun.
