Organizations Filed Purposes:
To promote the development of excellent library service to the blind and physically handicapped citizens of our state; to foster closer relations between our library and the citizens of our state; to encourage and assist in forming local groups or chapters; to promote knowledge of the library's functions, resources, services and needs; and to provide the means for members to exchange ideas, information and experience.
Support for the Library for the Blind of North Carolina and to promote literacy for visually impaired and blind individuals within North Carolina.
During Fiscal Year 2019-20, 426 large print books and 94 descriptive DVDs were purchased. Three titles were transcribed to braille. Six books and 28 magazines were recorded. The NC Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped held a number of educational activities that were underwritten by the Friends, adult and youth summer reading programs, two book discussions, an on-site VIP discussion and a remote discussion in Charlotte, with 109 participants in the two discussions. A Culture of Bluegrass Music" event attracted 107 attendees and a tactile tour of the North Carolina Art Museum another 16 participants. 42 people attended our volunteer recognition event.
