The Collaborative's mission is to close the wealth gap in North Carolina. We advocate on behalf of financially vulnerable communities by collaborating with financial institutions, nonprofits, and local government agencies across the state to educate people on building wealth. We believe everyone regardless of their skin color, physical abilities, or financial circumstances deserves an equal opportunity to build wealth.
Learn to Earn (Triangle)Learn to Earn is a unique program that bridges youth, an adult within their household, and organizations into a multigenerational financial capability program. With access to academic mentors, financial education, matched savings and career coaching, youth growing up in poverty have an opportunity to participate in a relationshipmodel program that encompasses the whole child. This model purports that children are more likely to graduate from high school and enroll in secondary education when they are aware that a savings account specifically for college is established in their names.Through this project, The Collaborative provided financial education 12 trainings to lowtomoderate income families that covered credit, student loans, entrepreneurship, and more.
Growing Household IncomeThrough the AmeriCorp VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) program, The Collaborative provides North Carolina nonprofits with a fulltime, paid volunteer with a bachelor's degree, for oneyear to build capacity within programs that increase families' economic stability. This additional VISTA support has become an integral part of participating nonprofits, especially lean organizations, whose staff is largely dedicated to servicing clients and unable to focus on program development and capacity building. In addition to a living stipend, the volunteers VISTAs receive professional development, healthcare coverage, paidtime off, and optional education or cash award. This VISTA service is available to any nonprofit or governmental agency with work that impacts lowincome families.Project partners include the Corporation for National and Community Service and 7 North Carolina nonprofits. Through them 18 VISTAs were placed in communities to build nonprofit capacity and connections to program services, resulting in 1102 adults in job placement programs, 839 youth served, and 1,257 community volunteers managed.
