LIVING POWER, NCRGEA'S NEWSLETTER, WAS SENT TO OVER 65,000 MEMBERS SIX TIMES DURING THE FISCAL YEAR, EITHER BY US MAIL OR ELECTRONICALLY (OVER 3,000 ELECTRONIC MAILINGS PER ISSUE). IN HOPES OF INCREASING MEMBERSHIP, THROUGH AN AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM, THE ASSOCIATION CONTINUED MAILING NEWSLETTERS TO ALL NEW RETIREES FOR THE FIRST 6 MONTHS OF THEIR RETIREMENT, WHETHER THEY JOINED THE ASSOCIATION OR NOT. ADDITIONALLY, THE NEWSLETTER IS MAILED TO CITY AND COUNTY MANAGERS, HR PERSONNEL OF COMMUNITY COLLEGES, UNIVERSITIES, STATE AGENCIES, AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT. STATE LEGISLATORS ALSO RECEIVE THE NEWSLETTER. PERTINENT INFORMATION INCLUDED IN THE NEWSLETTER FOR STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT RETIREES INCLUDE UPDATES ON NORTH CAROLINA LEGISLATIVE HAPPENINGS, STATE HEALTH PLAN INFORMATION, UPDATES ON MEDICARE AND SOCIAL SECURITY, AND OTHER ISSUES OF IMPORTANCE FOR THESE RETIREES AND PROSPECTIVE RETIREES.
NCRGEA'S DISTRICT MEETINGS, DURING 2019/2020 FISCAL YEAR, SERVED OVER 1,000 MEMBERS. THE SPEAKERS PROVIDED INFORMATION TO OUR MEMBERS ON STATE HEALTH PLAN CHANGES, NORTH CAROLINA'S 401(K) PLAN, THE NORTH CAROLINA RETIREMENT SYSTEM, MEDICARE, SOCIAL SECURITY, CREDIT REPORTS, IDENTITY THEFT, AND SCAMS TARGETING SENIORS. THE FALL 2019 MEETINGS WERE HELD IN LUMBERTON, SOUTHERN PINES, FAYETTEVILLE, SELMA AND HAMLET, NORTH CAROLINA. THE SPRING 2020 MEETINGS WERE POSTPONED DUE TO THE PANDEMIC.
