URBAN MINISTRIES OF WAKE COUNTY ENGAGES OUR COMMUNITY TO SERVE AND ADVOCATE ON BEHALF OF THOSE AFFECTED BY POVERTY BY PROVIDING FOOD AND NUTRITION, PROMOTING HEALTH AND WELLNESS AND BY LAYING THE FOUNDATIONS OF HOME. WE OPERATE WAKE COUNTY'S SECOND LARGEST FOOD PANTRY, LARGEST FREE AND CHARITABLE CLINIC WITH A FULLY LICENSED PHARMACY, AND LARGEST PROGRAM AND SHELTERS FOR ADULT SINGLE HOMELESS WOMEN.
MEDICAL SERVICES: THE OPEN DOOR CLINIC IS A FREE AND CHARITABLE CLINIC THAT PROVIDES CLINICAL CARE FOR UNINSURED WAKE COUNTY RESIDENTS WITH INCOMES BELOW 200% OF THE FEDERAL POVERTY LEVEL INCLUDING CHRONIC DISEASE MANAGEMENT, ACUTE ILLNESS CARE, HEALTH EDUCATION AND CASE MANAGEMENT, ONSITE PHARMACY SERVICES, PRESCRIPTIONS AND COMPREHENSIVE MEDICATION MANAGEMENT. SOME SPECIALTY VISITS ARE PROVIDED ONSITE (PODIATRY, AUDIOLOGY, CARDIOLOGY, GYNECOLOGY, AND ENT) WHILE OTHERS ARE AVAILABLE BY REFERRAL AT NO COST TO THE PATIENT, AS ARE MOST LABORATORY AND DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. BEHAVIORAL HEALTH AND NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING IS ALSO AVAILABLE ONSITE. THE CLINIC RECEIVED AN UNRESTRICTED GRANT OF 300K TO PROVIDE CARE TO UNDERSERVED POPULATIONS; WE HAVE RESERVED CASH FOR THAT PROJECT.
CRISIS SUPPORT: CRISIS SUPPORT PROVIDES IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE TO WAKE COUNTY RESIDENTS WITH FAMILY INCOMES LESS THAN 200% OF THE FEDERAL POVERTY LEVEL INCLUDING: VOUCHERS FOR PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS; ACCESS TO FRESH FROZEN MEAT, FRESH PRODUCE AND FRESH FRUIT, DAIRY AND EGGS AND SHELF STABLE FOOD THROUGH OUR HUNGER AND NUTRITION PROGRAM/FOOD PANTRY; AND REFERRALS TO PARTNER AGENCIES FOR SERVICES URBAN MINISTRIES DOES NOT PROVIDE.
HOMELESS PROGRAMMING AND SERVICES: THE HELEN WRIGHT CENTERS FOR WOMEN ARE THE LARGEST PROGRAMS FOR ADULT SINGLE HOMELESS WOMEN IN WAKE COUNTY, PROVIDING LOW BARRIER SHELTER, CASE MANAGEMENT, AND TRANSITION TO SINGED LEASES AND HOUSING ALONG WITH EDUCATION, CLASSES, AND REFERRALS FOR PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND SUBSTANCE USE CARE AS NEEDED. RECENTLY WE ADDED WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT CERTIFICATE CLASSES ONSITE AND ONLINE WITH FOLLOW-UP INTERNSHIPS TO INCREASE EMPLOYABILITY AND WAGES AFTER GRADUATION AND IMPROVE LONG TERM SUCCESS IN MAINTAINING HOUSING. TWO ADDITIONAL SITES FOR SOCIAL DISTANCING WERE ADDED DURING THE PANDEMIC FUNDED BY FEDERAL DOLLARS. WE HAVE RESERVED ADDITIONAL CASH TO OPERATE THESE SITES IF FUNDING LAPSED BEFORE THE NEED DID.
