Organizations Filed Purposes: The Sergei Foundation was founded in 2009 as a 501(c)(3) with the purpose to meet the unanswered need and demand for sick and injured companion pet care in North Carolina, specifically aiding lower-income families.

The Sergei Foundations primary program objective is to keep pets and their human companions together, reducing unnecessary euthanasia or pet abandonment for companion animals with treatable conditions. Its secondary goal is to improve the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of pet owners while educating them on how to avoid similar situations and to best keep their pet healthy. This is accomplished by funding veterinary subsidies for these families to obtain medical care for their pet. Through partnerships, The Sergei Foundation also obtains veterinary discounts up to 20-25% of retail prices, allowing funding to go even further. For the year ended December 31, 2016, The Sergei Foundation operated the following programs:(i)Emergency Veterinary Fund: The Emergency Veterinary Care Fund provides financial assistance for those unable to afford emergency, life-saving medical care in amounts up to $1,000. (ii)The General Vet Care Fund: The General Vet Care Fund was added in 2014 and provides funding of up to $100 for non-emergency medical issues.(iii) Internal Discretionary Fund: The Internal Discretionary Fund is utilized when the situation is a life/death emergency where the pet would die within 24 hours without treatment and Organization does not have enough time to gather all of the normal records for program evaluation or if the applicants income is slightly over the limit, but not more than 10%. Awards are typically in the range of $200-$250 to get vet care started so the applicant can have time to formally apply.
